It's crazy how this era was kinda make or break for Kylie after a good run in the 80s and early 90s... This album is so special for that reason, it put Kylie on the map as one of the biggest pop stars in the world and got Kylie touring big pop shows and the start of Kylie as a brand and to where she is today with the DISCO album in 2020 and her career in general!! 23 years wow all hail the QUEEN 👑💙👌💿

It's funny how _Light Years_ is so different from anything else Kylie has done. I feel like the album really was the bridge that carried Kylie from the 20th century to the 21st. The album is so disco 1970s sounding. Totally unlike the rest of her repertoire. The most "modern"-sounding tracks are 'Spinning Around', 'On A Night Like This', 'Kids' w Robbie Williams, and 'Please Stay'; all very 2000s pop. The rest is sooo borderline cheesy, 70s, very gay pride! Haha! ❤️

I remember when Light Years was released, I felt like I was in a cult of special music fans who were the only ones who really knew how amazing the album was. Of course, the singles had an impact but, like you say, the climate for her popularity was so different (especially before the explosion of Fever!) And it really is amazing. Kylie's albums generally are not strong. Light Years is, by far, her strongest. And pure joy to listen to. I've never particularly enjoyed Spinning Around though. Maybe just the 'overplayed' factor, but I almost always skip it. OANLT is one of her top tracks ever however.

The criticism was of awful Stock/Aitken/ Waterman hits like "I Should Be So Lucky" (very repetitive and just not a tuneful chorus) - one of their worst songs in my opinion. The other criticism was of Kylie's WEAK vocals. Very noticeable in her early songs. Very nasally tone and a thin voice. Frankly her singing made my average- person singing sound pretty good! I've never trained or even done anything more than a bit of singing in the school choir in my pre-teens. But I can hold a tune and don't have such a nasally, tinny voice. With a bit of practice and a coach I could probably have done a lot better than Minogue on her early work -not that I'm saying I'd have sounded good, but at least better than Minogue. Anf that's my point. They dubbed her "the singing budgie" for a reason. A nobody with a weak and not very attractive voice like hers wouldn't havr made it past the answering machine of a local record company! It's only because she was already famous and hitting the heights of popularity in the U.K. - and very attractive - that she got all those opportunities. Over time, her vocal abilities improved. But like Paula Abdul, her voice isn't really anything special at all. Neither would make it as session singers - just not good enough. And when you compare their singing to other singers, well they sound like amateur hour at the local pub.
@SY-ok2dq
Жыл бұрын
@@jonnyharveyAbdul's voice is probably worse. Shares similar weak, thin, nasally, strained qualities to Minogue. Likewise for J.Lo. Minogue could go louder though, it seems to me. In her duet with Jason Donovan (an alright voice with better tone etc. than Minogue, but still quite ordinary and average) she often drowns him out with her volume.

Forgot about the song Butterfly. The vibe of that song just screams gay pride parade to me. Haha. In the best way.

Why you never call her Kylie Minogue? Most people anticipate the name "Kylie" alone with Kylie Jenner

It's not a comeback cause she's basically never left. The truth is despite the complications with marketing and record labels, she has very supportive fans all over the world. Up to this day Kylie Minogue remains as that P O P star diva not many people cant touch. She's all about work, no scandals or cheap media publicity. I kinda lost interest for Kylie with Kiss Me once and Golden as I felt they were ver weak productions and William Baker left the creative direction for performances. However she kept doing her thing and she still did tours videos and promo, and fans lived for it. Kylie has proven she cant do wonders with litte resources and still slay the stage. She's a living legend that has inspired many many pop stars that came after her, but they never acknowledge her the way she deserves.

Just cause she didn’t leave, doesn’t mean it wasn’t a comeback. She was pretty much dropped by her record label, she hadn’t had a big hit in years & then she came back with a huge era & her first number one in ten years. Yes I very much think it was a comeback.
