You may notice when you initially make the switch, you’ll lose some of the old soil roots (they may get soft and mushy) but chances are you’ll develop some new and white water roots as long as your stem is still healthy and has no rot. For my plants in water I use dynagro foliage pro liquid fertilizer once a month and replace water once a week. Have you tried growing a monstera in water?

So, does that mean that when you add the liquid fertilizer, it’s only left in the water for one week? Because you said you change the water every week, but add liquid fertilizer once a month. So does the plant sit in the fertilizer for one week? Do you dilute the fertilizer, or use it as directed?

The only time my Monstera gave me issues is when the humidity was too low in the winter (caused leaf drop), and when we lived in a house where the windows didn't receive much light. Now they have South facing windows and a programmable humidifier. In the winter they sometimes send out aerial roots. I will place the root in a milk jug full of water. The plant will then create several roots to take up the moisture. That helps with leaf droop.

Then it took a month of praying over her everyday to live . I cut the top to propagate because I wasent sure it would pull though. It did. Barely. Maybe my issue was placing back under grow light when roots went from dirt to water? Idk. But I’m terrified to touch it now.

Monsteras are beautiful, don’t get me wrong, but they do seem like quite a large, overwhelming commitment, and I question how they even got so popular as houseplants? I feel like the answer is as simple as “they became a fad at some point”. These things seem closer to trees and like something to have in your yard climbing up another tree or the side of your house or something - which I see everywhere in FL. Meanwhile I’ve seen videos of people having to cover an entire room in plastic like Dexter, at least two people needed to even move or handle the plant, cutting/breaking and tearing the pot away in pieces, butchering the aerial roots for aesthetics and to make it just slightly more manageable, or intentionally leaving plants WAY rootbound to keep them at an “ideal” size. I’m sorry that’s too much nonsense trying to force something that doesn’t fit. And just like you shouldn’t adopt an animal you don’t have space for, can’t commit to, etc. - you shouldn’t acquire a freaking tree or something that will easily outgrow you and your space and WILL eventually need to be planted in the ground when you have no intention or realistic plan of ever doing that. None of this is directed at Krystal, obviously.
