Very nice of you to share your monthly budget with us. Your 676 Euros for the month, plus the 650 Euros for the ferry, is still pretty inexpensive living. My idea of coming to Europe and renting a camper van seems much more feasible now. Thanks, and Happy Camping!

@ The Indie Projekts watch out in Europe with wild camping. In germany for example its not strictly forbidden but some people dont want to see it for (i dont know the reason D:) But in austria it IS STRICTLY forbidden and you will get a ticket. In nature reserves you can easyly get tickets up to 1000€. so keep that in mind and maybe check other countrys for laws in that way. I wish you a merry christmas

Thanks for the warning, we've wildcamped across the whole of Europe and always take precautions wherever we go, but I think our van is a lot stealthier than standard Motorhomes which allows us to sleep in many places other people might not! We've been wildcamping in vans all over the world since 2013 and (touch wood!) have so far been ok but we have heard stories of people having issues all over so we are always respectful of where we wildcamp and keep ourselves to ourselves 😊

Wow, I am really surprised by that low number. Many people end up spending 800-1000€ for just one person. Your food bill is pretty low for two people. 300€ is our targe budget for two, but we always spend closer to 400€. That's in a conventional home, mind you. I think in a van it might be easier to succumb to the allures of snacks and fast food. Pretty impressed!

For travel money cards and budgeting, I can really recommend Monzo - they are now operating a current account and the app is superb - no loading on the exchange rates either so saves you a few percent - and you can use it in the UK like you would any other card too.

Hi, thanks for this very informative post. I travelled a little in my earlier years and have thought about van living myself many times. One thing Ive always wondered about though, and that is no matter how cheap monthly outgoings are, just how do "non retired"people living and travelling in vans afford to do so without a job? I didn't think your costs at all extravagant. 600/700 a month? In fact I don't really see how you could live cheaper. But even on that pretty tight budget you've still got to find 8500 a year. That's without any extra unfortunate but necessary van costs like repairs, servicing, tax, insurance. I can see how older retired people might afford it. Maybe sell their homes and then with their pensions on top it would probably be a very nice, care free lifestyle. But just how do younger people afford it? Anyway, good luck to you. I wish you a Merry Xmas and happy travelling in 2018.

We are using a Portuguese Vodafone sim, weirdly enough our UK EE sim doesn't seem to want to work?! Currently my virgin sim is working great out here, as is Theo's 3 sim but it's working better through the mifi with the Vodafone Portuguese sim. Our mifi device is quite old and cannot transmit 4g, so the fastest we can get is 3G. Id suggest looking up an unlocked huwaie (think that's the spelling!) mifi device that does 4g as it's the more modern version of ours 😊

Wow you spend alot on food, I eat an apple for lunch and a flash salad every night, crushed walnuts, avocado, lettuce, sliced tomato, carrot, beetroot and cucumber, all organic, tossed with apple cider vinegar with a dollop of Ceasar salad dressing on top. Lots of good fats, sets you up for the night, and when your gut bacteria get happy from all that, you don't need to eat any more than that. A course of probiotics is a good idea at the start, and I have hot Cacao with milk or light coconut cream, honey and organic Cacao, and coffee in the morning, honey is so very much better for you than sugar, and gluten is the devil. Gluten free yeast extract spread in hot water with a little pink salt is a healthy Bovril-like drink, yeast extract gives me all the best vitamins my gut bacteria aren't up to making, deficiency is common in a plant based diet, not because the food is B12 deficient, but because the body starts to heal and the need for B12 increases, but most people don't repopulate their gut bacteria with probiotics, that make b vitamins for us, so they end up deficient, mostly because their salad is washed too thoroughly, bacteria make b vitamins, which is why raw mushrooms are high in B12. I like weird looking Japanese mushrooms on my salad.

I love it that you spend money in euros, based on 10, aaaaand then you get into miles. The base being a grain of barley? Don't do that, it really is silly. It means nothing to us! X fluviums to a secong petronals, makes as much sense. 1609 meters is a mile, yay? How many barley corn is that? Stop being silly! I know what a pint is, but only when you have a beer. No pints in cooking, no miles, no inches. Please. We stopped using "näverskomil" (how long you could walk in a pair of shoes made from birch bark) a long time ago. And for a good reason! Next time you're in Sweden and have dinner at our place I'll just be quiet and let you eat, have a shower, top off the batteries and all that. We'd love to have you as our guests. But you are x times a barley corn away from us now ;-) You still rule! And beloved youtubers... If I'm wrong about the barley corn, please feel free to tell me so. Then I'll tell you that the type of corn doesn't matter.
