Abel Graham my down is 500 mb/s and up 26 mb/s, don't know exactly the price of this pack because we have 2 tvs and 1 internet from the same provider but here it's usually a lot cheaper than in most countries because we, as a country don't have a strong currency, like thoes 16 dollars mean about 64 lei (our currency) it's not exactly expensive but not very cheap and most isp only sell internet on a packet like internet tv and telephone, like the internet is the only onethat is obligatory on a pack the others you can get individually, anyway my pack is only tv and net and we have more tvs so we have a 2 tv pack and internet anyway the main idea is that I'ts cheap for countries that have stronger currency but for use is not something that is seen as cheap

KPN also has only 60Mbs for 37,50 and 20Mb/s for 32,50 (both 25 for the first 3 months), which is extremely expensive. That are the choises I get. Ziggo, low prices, fast internet, not a lot of problems. Or KPN, high prices, slow internet and problems.

I live in Moscow, Russia. I believe the cost can vary greatly from city to city in my country. So I can talk only about Moscow. There are several major ISPs. The biggest one is called MGTS. It provides fiber in almost all the boroughs. I use this one and I would say the prices this ISP offers are average. As on January 2018 there are the following options (fiber only, a fiber router with Wi-Fi is provided for free, all taxes included): 60 Mb/s - 6,5 USD 200 Mb/s - 10 USD 500 Mb/s - 28 USD It's also possible to have a landline and IPTV with HD channels for additional price which are not so big. Outside Moscow the prices are higher and there less ISPs. So it's better to use just LTE-modems or just access the Internet through a smartphone. Nowadays it's possible to buy data-only SIM-card with unlimited LTE pack for about 10 USD. I use a couple of LTE devices so as to access the Internet from my dacha and pay more - something like 27 USD, but it's not data-only, it includes 2000 minutes, 30 Gb of LTE speed and 500 sms each month. Each additional 5 Gb pack would cost 3 USD.

In Canada I get 10 down and 1 up for $60 a month, but this is because we get a satellite connection. This is because we are limited to the lowest speed of cable where we live, which is much slower, and around the same price. Everything really differs depending where you are located though. Once we move, we will be getting 100 down and 10 up for $70 a month, which while still being expensive, is more worth it in my opinion.

My Cox price has gone up again for the 5th year in a row. Now, I'm required to use a "Mini Box" that I have to pay for in order to get local TV channels. I thought these new digital TVs we purchased has this technology already built in to receive digital channels? I believe it's Cox' way of encrypting all their channels so that you are required to purchase there decrypting device (mini box) and have to sign up for one of their TV cable plans in order to receive any channels. We can all thank the U.S. government also for mandating the push to all digital. Obama needs to give us a subsidy to offset our cable bills.

Yeah, most Internet pricing is gouging. Even in the highly competitive, low priced areas of the world, its far more expensively priced than it actually needs to be in order to sustain and grow the business and infrastructure. Looking at the pace of tech growth and pricing, its been interesting thinking about how text messaging and calling changed since the 80s-90s for phones, and similarly for Internet access. Its not hard to imagine a 2020s-2030s where Internet access in itself is either free or regulated to very low pricing. Its not the same as a 'normal' resource-based utility, and its importance is far more than what television has been. I'm in Canada and share the cost with another for a smaller ISP that offers comparatively more data and lower pricing than the bigger ISPs do, so for myself I only spend $25/month on Internet. Even without splitting, I refuse to spend more than $50/month on Internet on principle. And I am looking forward to a future, even if farther off, where I can bundle any Internet access (INCLUDING my mobile devices, is my point) together as a single affordable charge. Like you put it, the biggest thing holding a future of this back is just the lack of competition. These companies can just sit on their prices (or sometimes even raise them!) just because they're allowed to by existing regulations, or lack of them, or other companies not having caught up to being competition in many areas of the countries. This is why, regardless of skeptics of them, God Bless Google.

Google builds its fiber infrastructure with govt money. Also, google benefits from you using their service by tracking what you do. So in a way, they are able to subsidize your Internet cost by making money off you on the side. Having said that, you are absolutely correct that private companies are monopolies, and therefore, gouge. I pay $50/month for 30/3mbps. That is ridiculously expensive. Unfortunately, Cox is the only game in town. Their competitors don't match up. Should govt regulate prices? No. Govt should not be in the business of regulating how much a private business should charge for its services. What govt should do is force monopolies to open up their infrastructure to anybody who wants to build a business on the network, such as MVNOS. That is what Europe does to keep price down.

I'm on TalkTalk and I get 76mb download and 21 mb upload and I pay £35 a month and I think the isp is brilliant and the price is amazing!
You guys think Australian internet is bad ? meanwhile in some african countries that have an internet access like South Africa, Ghana, Gambia, or Equatorial Guinea, 2 Mbps internet ADSL will cost up to US$ 120 per-months, in a country where most people only have monthly income about $30-50.

Nobody knows the best price for Internet, that's what the market is for. Any and all regulations or legislation that prevents competition should be done away with so that the vested interests have to actually earn their money for a change.

We're getting gouged. Time Warner and Frontier. Those are the choices. Frontier sold a 1.5 Mbit connection to my folks when there was a total data throughput of only 250Kbits in that area (neighborhood). Frontier didn't even reimburse them. Time Warner became their only choice after that. Can you say " MONOPOLY"? The game was a warning, not a set of instructions. Now that internet connectivity is considered a utility by the FCC I hope some real change comes about. As it stands there are too many wolves "guarding" the flock for good change to come about.

I live in Egypt the Land of opportunities (not really!) ... I finally have a whole 2 Mbit/s connection speed for about 25$ in my currency per month but its limited for 150 Gbs usage!, which is a huge upgrade (not really again!) of my previous speed which was 1 Mbit/s for same price but unlimited Gbs usage edition.

In India it cost just $.26 for 1GB data, there is a 97% difference in the price of 1GB of data between India and the US. I hope Elon musk's Starlink will bring the prices down in US. My broadband connection is 50Mbps download and 20Mbps upload, with 500Gb download limit at a price of just $10.97 a month
