It feels like this is the genre that fits you so well, that no matter how many times you would quit a certain iteration of the game, sooner or later you would return and make it better or rebuild from scratch. The jetpack dodge mechanic is looking sweet and unique. Well done!

Don't make your dream game as your first game Just don't You don't want to be that guy working 5+ years on a game, not post about it too Then when you finally release it, it's heavily flawed (too flawed) and no one even knows it exists If you got time, participate in Game Jams and post videos about it, post your stuff on social media too You gotta gain a type of audience if you want anyone to play your game

honestly, the previous iterations just look like a classic case of "I just implemented a ton of features for the sake of it, w/o thinking abt maintenance costs". Game design was clearly undefined, so that doesn't help either tbf. But imo nothing beats, in terms of demotivation, a messy environment to work on. about the newer one, it looks great (maybe a bit too similar to Enter the Gungeon in terms of certain HUD elements?). tho I'd def add more punch to the player weapons. Like some recoil, extra (noise-based) screen shake, some interp animation proportional to the weapons' recoil (so it quickly moves back-n-forth in the player's hands), etc.. talking mostly abt the shotgun, since it should feel extra

Nice commentary and video! Thanks. I respect and appreciate honest accounts from others when discussing their projects (which is one reason I enjoy listening to Adam Savage). It allows others interested in beginning their own projects to have a real view of what it's like and one that they can actually relate to - and it may inspire them to push through it. As an aside: The first iteration of the project is super cute and hopefully you'll revisit it one day. Ha. All the best!

Amazing to see the progress and I agree, development hell is only hell when you learn nothing from it, it’s clear those iterations throughout the years made you the programmer you are today as well as gave you space to properly create a story (which is a really cool story btw) and let your game show you what it wanted to be! Keen to see what’s next!

I know that you moved away from focusing on a food theme, but maybe for your final character, who could be melee focused, as you mentioned you might've wanted to add, I would recommend and icecream princess, who's abandoned her royal status and joined that rag-tag crew we follow throughout the story. Design wise, a simple scoop if icecream with a cone, but upside-down, so that cone is that stereotypical pointed hat that super olden day princesses would wear. I just thought it would be neat to showcase the old face of the project, which was a super cute vanilla icecream cone. 😁

Take a look at the Status effects devlog, there's a section in that with the new level editor. I'm still unsure if I will add the level editor into the game for players to play around with, it will need a good bit of polish, but I figure if the game is successful, I might as well fix it up and add it in as a free update
