I’d have to say fellas I was trying to explain to my buddy how to put his chain on and adjust it over the phone and I decided it would probably be better if I showed him. Then I decided to check KZitem and found your video. I sent it to him and he had no problem, thanks for the video and saving me the time. 👍 ps I went over the next week and he was doing exactly like your video. Thanks again, Jason from Snohomish Washington.

This is one of the better sources for information and the added tips are very useful. I have a MS 170 that is the best running saw I've ever owned and it cuts great, it can't compete with the larger Husqvarna's but I didn't get for those jobs. Also have Stihl trimmers and they are awesome for the heavier work. Have never owned a Stihl product that didn't perform like it claimed it would, the little MS 170 is overworked but it does a great job and keeps going.

Wonderful information two things. 1. Had a problem when we flipped the blade that the chain was on backwards so don't forget to do that! 2. Also, common problems would be nice (oil & grease inside cover plate, excess dirt or wear on blade and cover, cross threaded, etc.)

Great share my friend....here it is in my laymen terms... The stretch is actually the chain link holes get worn from overheating and a lack of oil. Also, after each use at the end of the day, loosen the tension, to help prevent the hole and pins fron holding pressure on them and slow the " holes from wollering out. I found most of these clues from you and other people, so don't think I am an expert. Just sharing the knowledge I have been shown. Remember if this sounds odd, but having 70 and more links in a chain, and getting each hole say 1/16" each of hole wear, then add that up and you understand how the chain will be longer overall when installed and pulled to length. Metal expands when over heated. Just a litte simple math. Be safe out there and enjoy the great outdoors !

Stihl Inc...On mounting a bar I saw a KZitem from Redbull661 that made a lot of sense because I have bound my saw up on several occasions mounting it the way you recommend and never knew why. He explained that when you lift the tip and then tighten the bar nuts if you use the top of the bar and it slips at all you will put tremendous pressure on the crankshaft and bar sprocket enough to seize the saw. If all you are doing is bucking, lifting the tip makes sense because you are always pushing up from the bottom. But if you are using the top and bottom of the bar it makes sense to tighten with the tip down.

Múltiple times they explained it to me but it had never sunken in because they showed me how and never did it myself, until recently, got a brand new chain and it kept coming loose 5 times even and I was starting to get confused and gave up, I'm about to try it as shown, and let's hope it stays on this time, also, the for the storing tip and about how the heat can loosen up the chain... and I'm guessing a brand new chain would expand much more than an older chain... keeping it in mind the!

Now if you could only tell my local authorized Stihl Service Center to not leave the chain tensioned when not in use. Just had it serviced (picked up yesterday,but dropped off two weeks ago) and I had them install a new chain while they were there. Fully tensioned when I picked it up. But the chainsaw is AMAZING though. Thanks STIHL.

@stihlusa
2 жыл бұрын
Hello Mario, Make sure when tightening the chain you lift the bar up and leave about a 1/4" of slack underneath. IF you are getting more than a 1/4" of slack, it is likely the chain has stretched from heat or friction. If the chain is not sharp the friction will cause the chain to stretch. Consider purchasing a new chain.
