With the legs drilled in like that, does it cause problems with wood expansion on the tabletop?

the screws should be smaller than the hole to allow for movement
@Steeltablelegs

Wow, sorry we totally missed all of these comments. The slotted holes allow for plenty of expansion and contraction movement. The screws are smaller in both directions, and especially in the direction that the wood moves. This is a time tested solution.

Your table legs look great but they're more than I want to pay for the simple desk I want to make. I'll keep your stuff in mind for future projects though.

a better way is to use a router to cut out a recessed area for the mounting plates of your legs. Drill some holes with a countersink bit and then install threaded inserts. Finally install table legs

I do as exactly as you show the process in your video, however, the hold do not match the insert for the legs. For some reason they move and I dont know why.

hi, we are looking to build wood tables with metal legs similar to this video. Do you have any legs that come with hinges so we can fold the legs and stack the tables? -ty

Hello, very good video! I am trying to make similar table but dont really know where to start :) What profile you used here? And this upper plate, do you have dimensions? For fasteners, would it be ok to use M10x30, or maybe 35 with washers?

We actually didn't finish these table tops. We have a few of our favorite builders that we like to work with on certain projects. Sorry that's not much help here. I'm not sure what they used on these ones.

Hi everyone! Can anyone advice as to why are the legs always put in such a way that takes up legroom space for seaters? I'm asking this because I'm looking for a table of about 140-150cm so that two people can sit comfortably in one side of the table but with all tables I find, the legs are always taking up space :( So I need to buy a plate and put the legs in the border of the plate myself so that I can use those 140-150cm for real... I was just wondering if this is something people do intentionally because the wood might bent or something? I have no idea why the legs are always placed 10-15cm away from the borders (other than there could be a person seating in the corner)... Thanks!

Hi Gabriela! The reason you the legs mounted that way shouldn't have anything to do with the wood. It's most likely because you need a pretty large sized table top to comfortably fit people on the ends. We recommend at least 12" from the table leg to the end for end seating and then for each person on the sides to have 24". And you don't want that table leg landing right at someone's seating space. So for your 140-145cm table, you wouldn't be able to fit 4 people on the sides, as well as end seating. Sorry for the late response 🤦♂️
