Many people have to pull together until a set is on stage. It takes locksmiths, decorators, carpenters and painters. Pragmatic craftsmen for the play with illusion, because scenery construction is teamwork.
In the workshops of the Pfalztheater in Kaiserslautern, it is only two months until the premiere of the operetta the "Merry Widow", by Franz Lehar. It's not easy to implement the stage designer's specifications now, because time is short and many employees are sick. That's the way it is in the theater: nothing is off the peg here, and that's why the trades don't always go in order, the most important thing comes first, and if that doesn't work, then the second most important thing. The main thing is that things move forward and everything is good in the end.
A lot of heart and soul, a lot of craftsmanship, a lot of creativity go into the stage sets. They are only built for one season, not for eternity. But building castles in the air, creating illusions and painting fantasy worlds is real craftsmanship.
