5'7" woman with long torso here, I feel the hip thrust better if the top of the box is a tad bit lower than my shoulder blades. I think that's the case for me since I have an extra couple of inches of torso going on here

I'm 5'3 & I actually also do it with the bench bit more downthe shoulder blades. Works best for me & results speak for theself. So I guess choose a potiotn that makes you feel best & feel your glutes :D

Would glute bridges be a good alternative for a hip thrust? I’m a super newbie for the gym and I’m trying to build my tush but my bench is waaayy too high.

Hip trust is an high contraction exercise, so its not the best exercice for glute but still it can do the job. Retroversion of the hips will make you feel more contraction but, it also make your lower back antérior disc to have more compression on it ( this is how can eventualy have lower back pain). They should keep an abdominal contraction to prevent this.

This is what frustrates me. Everyone has been raving about hip thrust and how it's the best exercise for the glutes. But then you say that it's not the best but can still do the job. So many contradictions. Thanks for the tips, and I'm kind of glad to know that it's not the best one because I hate doing them 😂

@@goddessvibes2345 Ill explain you why. Its an high degree of contraction mouvement. There is thing called actin-myosine in your muscle. When the muscle is stretch or near a full contraction, he is less powerfull. The hip trust his more effective half of the mouvement so you dont work hard the muscle in a big range of motion and in this range on motion, the muscle is almost near his full contraction. You WILL feel the contraction, has you will feel every high degree of contraction mouvement but to feel doesnt mean is optimal. Thing like dead lift or hips dominant squat will work better. Again, is doesnt mean that the hip trust is a bad exercice, but its not the -best- one for hypertrophy. ( english is not my first language )

Where to place the barbell? I was hoping we would see a view from the top of where the barbell sits before thrusting. Where do you guys place the barbell to feel the most activation. Or where is the safest place I should say. I am only able to use the smith machine for this exercise so where the bar sits is crucial since it’s fixed. Thank you in advance. 🤗✨

I don't crank my head into my chest anymore. My back was hurting from it. It's not a neutral spine posture. Keep the spine and neck as neutral as possible . My head moves with my hinge now. I don't do "glute scoop" method anymore either. I much prefer hingey thrusts.

I personally do them first as it takes the most energy out of all my exercises. I'd recommend compound movements at the start (exercises that use multiple muscle groups) then unilateral exercises (one sided movements) and finally isolation exercises (movements that really target one muscle/muscle group) hope this helps :)

It's a very demanding exercise so it will be better start with it is when more energy you have. Also normally the best option is start with the muscle you want to target in this case a bit of mix glutes (minor, medius, maximus...). 😊

Also, in the first half of the mouvement, it will have more friction created by the angle of your knees with your feet so its basicly quad dominant in this part. The other half you will have your knee right up your feet and you will have way more contraction of the glute. its biomecanical science 101.

it’s a gym and she’s wearing gym clothes which are comfortable to do the exercises 🙄 if you are uncomfortable with that it’s your issue. you’ll never feel “empowered” by bringing other women down for their outfit choices. i go to women’s only gym and plenty of girls wear “revealing” clothes and it’s certainly not for men.
