Awe man. Back in the me and G-pa went to a private club and caught over 60 bullheads. Took them to the Cook County forest preserve ponds. Would find black folks. Great people. Would ask if they wanted some bullheads. They said sure. We would dump that bucket. They would exclaim Oh Lordy Lordy! Felt so good to make good folks happy. God blesses those who help others.

Back many years ago, my granddad had a pond dug out back in the late 60s. He used to stock the pond with channel catfish, bluegill, and bass. My dad and I would fish that pond behind his house when I was a kid in the late 90s. The channel catfish were gone, but plenty of bluegill and bass remained. Not sure when this happened, but somehow two different species of bullhead catfish were introduced in that pond. Black and yellow bullheads. There are so many in that pond these days. Some up to 2 pounds at the most. Good eating fish. Plenty to go around. Fun to catch. I use my light action setup with 6 lb line to catch them.

Good stuff Tom. I had a day of 25 or so the other night. I finally found a lake where the average bullhead is eatable size. Used a size 1 circle hook and not one gut hooked. Happy fishing.

That's a talent. I've always known Bullheads to be among the WORST offenders when it comes to swallowing hooks. Freshwater Drum, Smallmouth Bass are also pretty bad for that. One thing I really love about Common Carp and Channel Cats, they virtually NEVER swallow a hook. Carp are always hooked nice and clean in the corner of the mouth.
@hookedonbassncats

@@herbsuperb6034 ya usually bullheads swallow the hook. But with the combo of the circle hook and the fact they were bigger bullhead and being so many I wonder if they were picking up the bait and swimming off to keep other ones from trying to steal it. And the fish swimming off is what you want with the circle hook for it to work properly.

Use a 3/8oz maybe 1/2oz jig, and they won’t swallow the hook and you won’t have to re tie a hook every time. Works wonders and I think using different colours helps too. Good flathead bait

Back when we were kids growing up in Nebraska, the only place we could walk to to fish in the summer was a little creek running through town. It had bullheads. Mostly small, but some 8 inches. The swallowed the hook something fierce. They are not the greatest fish, but we had some really good times

Man never seen someone catch so many that fast!! Down south we use them to catch flathead catfish with!! They make great bait. Those 52 bullheads in this area could produce you about 25 flatheads weighing anywhere from 5-50lbs each!! Thanks for the video

You don't even need a lot of water to catch bullheads. We had a creek on our farm property that would go dry in spots over the summer, but where there were still a few inches of water around, you could always catch a mess of bullheads. Same in an old pond that had mostly silted over but was maybe 6 or 7 inches deep.

You have dead crawlers now. After you blemish a crawler you have to keep the damaged crawler separate and rinse your hands or “scissors” (I have never seen that) so you don’t transfer. I’m not telling you how to fish just a tip from a pro to a prospective pro. Good luck
@OutsidewithTom

That only applies to long term storage. These worms were all gone within an hour. But obviously you already know that since your a pro. How do you know I'm not a pro? I can't believe a pro has never seen somebody cut worms with a scissors, that's how the pros do it. Good luck to you too.

No need for an entire worm use floating jigs with a sinker to keep the jog 4-6" off bottom and a chunk of nightcrawler just big enough to cover the shank of the jig and they almost never swallow a floating jig.
