Should I be using .006 for my 8 string? Or should I try .008 since it's more in the bass range? By the way, you got me to buy those feeler gauges. Very helpful! thank you!

Was the guitar in tune when you did this ?

Yes. Guitar must be tuned to pitch when checking and setting relief.

As a custom shop owner, adjusting the truss rod is much more complicated than you showed. You didn’t talk about the nut or the bridge. That’s the problem with these KZitem shorts. Don’t mess around with the rod unless you know what you’re doing.

You want your neck perfectly flat. You want no relief in any way shape or form. Once you get your neck perfectly flat... Adjust your saddles as necessary. It makes no difference what the radius of the fretboard is. Though having a good quality guitar helps. Set it like that 1 time and you will never be able to tolerate a bow in the neck again.

Most guitars will buzz it you set it perfectly straight, some guitars need more relief than others.

@@burnoutzzzI saw a video today, that basically said set neck straight and try to get the string height so that gradually increases the higher up the frets you go. So I set my ibanez this way today, and it feels and plays really, really good.

Yes you’re right, nearly every professional guitar builder/tech for the last 100 years has been incorrectly setting up instruments. Thank god you are here to save us from misinformation.

@@burnoutzzz Setting it perfectly straight and not doing the other things that are necessary are definitely going to cause problems. It's not just a case of setting the neck straight. You might have to do things like leveling off your frets. You might have to make a nut adjustment. You might have to adjust the saddles.......
