Thank you. Because of that video now i have buzz free ~1.2mm on high E and ~1.6mm on low E on my Les Paul with spot on intonation. Never had it so low. 1.25/1.75 was my go to height since I have it.

The video I was looking for! short and to the point. I'm renovating a 1998 Korean Epiphone LP that my neighbor gave to me and Ive changed every single thing in it. Now its time for a setup and thats where my knowledge lacks. This video will help me a lot. Also, im trying 10s for the first time (tuned on D#) after playing 12s (tuned on D) for over 15 years and they feel too loose. im going to try out 11s and this setup.

Cool settings , they're pretty much factory spec. I have .004 relief and.60/.40 action at the 12th and 17th fret (measured without a capo on the 1st fret) 10-46 strings. No buzz or dead notes.

Great video, thank you. One observation, a Luthier taught me to NEVER support the neck when measuring neck relief and to measure with the Guitar in playing position, what are your thoughts on this?

I recommend using a high end Peterson Strobe tuner for intonation as it's extremely accurate.

Man this is good info. I have a couple of USA standards that plays great. I just got a custom shop Murphy lab 59 that is a stunner, but I have found it is more difficult to play. I was unaware of adjusting the tail piece and thus the height and that could affect the string tension. I play mostly blues type lead and find that the custom shop just feels more stiff, so maybe that’s what’s going on. I’m almost scared to do it myself because it’s such an expensive guitar!

Did you change the bridge? Yours is backwards compared to mine. Intonation screws on mine are on the front of my bridge. I have a '60's reissue standard (2021) I noticed yours facing backwards. Nice vid though.

If you’re going to a higher string gauge, shouldn’t you adjust neck relief after restringing and bringing up to tension?

Hi thank you for this vid. i'm busy trying to set up my LP standard also with a 60's neck. i skipped the truss rod adjustment and went ahead with setting up the string action the guitar plays like I want BUT i'm getting a tiny bit of fret buzz i'm thinking i might have to get the neck slots filed down do you think it's the nut or the truss rod needs to be tightened?? thanks

You would be surprised - as I was - at how many people have called professional techs, even luthiers, on here unprofessional for one single reason : saddle installed with the screws facing the tailpiece on a Gibson. Mine is just like yours, facing the tailpiece. Mine came that way from the factory (bought it new in 06).

When doing the nexk relief for first time should the bridge be all the way down out my normal action height? Vetting a lot buzzing past 12th but have the relevant gap at the 8th fret I need
@Kbald
2 жыл бұрын
Hey man, don’t worry about adjusting the bridge before doing the neck relief. Just keep it as it is to begin with. First get the neck relief where you want it to be, then do the string height. After you’ve got the string height right you can do the intonation.

I'm a total beginner with set ups but you can turn them either direction (otherwise why would it be there). If you can't turn it one of the directions, I suspect you may be as far as it goes, which in my experience would play like shit lol

Raising the tail piece up and down does not change the tension it's like saying what weighs more a ton of feathers or a ton of bricks it still has the same amount of tension
@alexikalfayan45
Жыл бұрын
Yes you are right....the 11-48 does have more tension than 10-46 but you can still add even more tension to the strings if you lower the tail and get a very sharp angle. So setting just right until you get the normal tension that you should with the 11-48 is what he meant. You can over do it and messes with the intonation and tone big time.
@galloway7448

Once a certain guage string is in tune the tension will remain the same between two fixed points no matter what the brake angle is.

Its not the 120th anniversary of the classic model, the classic came out in the late 80s, early 90s. The anniversary is for the company itself

If you want a better tone on your LP/SG/335.. guitar, or some copies, the number one in tuning is to do this.kzitem.info/news/bejne/uYh3x3eGap-afG2T6:16> The choice of strings, the action, comes later, and always depends on the player's affinity. What contributes to the real resonance of the bridge and body of the guitar is exactly what this guy shows, on older LPs it was mandatory at the factory.
