To date, one of the best vids on this subject. Still, if a home gamer wants to verify bores centerlines have no offset and are fully square vs cam centerline, what to do? Rollers can handle centers offset at the price of odd valve timing, but being off square can get uneven axle loading,

Very interesting. Very professionel video. I bought a BB Chevy 454 flat tappet with a camshaft that had one lobe non existing anymore. Changed it with a new cam and new lifters and after 1 hour of run time I have 2 New cam lobes totally damaged. I used brake in oil reved it over 2500 for 25 minutes at start. Dont know exactly what happened. Mayby lifters got stuck or the valve springs are too strong. Greetings from the V8Lounge in Germany

A snap gage ( tee gage) is supposed to expand then tipped out of square to get it to self center and come out then mic over

Where can I get a dial bore gauge that small?

great video, but terrible tool. That bore gauge is not accurate enough for your operation. You said not to use a set of calipers due to their poor accuracy, and then proceed to use a bore gauge that's worse than most calipers. Mitutoyo makes a nice gauge that's 0.00008" accurate and repeatable and not a gigantic.0005" (over 25% of your clearance!).

A half thou gage is fine for checking lifter bores as you can see the needle when it's between two lines and that narrows it down less than a half thou. I have a couple of these cheap gages and they repeat just as well as my $2500 Sunnen gages. I also have a Sunnen AG300 gage that is around $7000 I can compare my other bore gages with. The reality of reconditioning a lifter bore to specs requiring gaging within the 5 decimal places you stated above are absolutely silly. Make me believe that you have spent zero time in engine block remanufacturing.

@@whiplashmachine oh I see. So you go for insults when I tell you your gauge is bad. As if somehow, insulting me makes your gauge more accurate. Makes me think you haven't a clue about how gauges work and you're deflecting attention by being a dick. Got it. Way to go!

@@GetaDomTune Oh I'm pretty well in tune with my gages. Thats how I know what he did didnt deserve your insults

@@whiplashmachine The manufacturer of the gauge even says it's only good to half a thou. That's not an insult.

@@GetaDomTune Some of us use gages damn near every day. And besides by little engine vids, I use gages in very high dollar, intricate work well beyond a lifter bore measurement or any part of an engine at my place of employment. That lil gage is well apt enough to inspect a lifter bore and since I own many gages and have compared them all to some pretty high teck equipement, I could care less about your little tantrum lol.
