As some of you might know I recently got the the Yaesu FT-991A and I'm really loving it. The hand mic that came with it was OK, but wanted to connect it to my boom mic. I could run the mic right into the radio but wanted the versatility of using a mixing board. This will allow me to capture my audio from the mic into several devices such as the radio, my camera and the computer for live streams.
I couldn't find the exact cable I needed to make this work, so I got with my Elmer and we made it together. In this video I will show you how we built a custom cable. On one end is the Yaesu RJ45 connector and the other end is a XLR connector and 1/4 jack. The XLR then passes the audio through an isolation transformer and into the mixer. We also make a custom cable from the RJ45 and into a 1/4 mono connector for the PTT switch.
