Yikes can you make an annotation for future watchers, saying to unwrap the blade near the beginning. I spent a long time redoing it as i was following along in order.

This works great. However in 2.8 I can't get the noise texture as applied to the plane to work. It seems to apply the noise texture to the individual blades always not to the plane any Ideas? At 19:44 with texture cordinate set to object.

Best vídeo for sure! Could you say with the 2.8 Beta, this process became easier? Another question... The scale of the particle interfere with the rendering performance (If the grass had a 100% scale, instead 0.1% )? Thx!

Great result. But as always with grass, things are getting really complicated when you want to apply this on an entire environment.
@BlenderBrit

+David Boura it's as actually not that bad, I've tested it on a few archviz scenes and it's quite easy to whack it just about anywhere. Memory usage scales quite nicely too.

I'm missed the part when you create some depth for the grass. I've followed your instructions step by step, but I only have a flat grass, and at 16:10 I can see that you have a 3d grass with some depth in it. How did you do that, or what did I miss?

So is it true that Geometry is faster to render than a whole bunch of Alpha plane'd grass ?
@BlenderBrit
6 жыл бұрын
No, I would imagine the latter is considerably faster.

From my experience with video game engines, when the alpha/transparent section of a texture is overlapped with multiple other transparent parts (e.g the transparent space around a tree branch/leaf texture overlapping with other branches) the shaders finds this hard to render and it's usually best to use as little polygons as necessary to minimize this space as much as possible. I believe render engines that utilise raytracing also have trouble rendering these parts with the result ending up noisy. Correct me if I'm wrong though :)

Please remake this tutorial for Blender 2.8. And please no music; it's irrelevant, distracting and besides we all have our own. Many thanks.
