As a hockey fan, I am always amused when you credit people with a hockey assist :P I think the most important thing i've learned from these videos is how to use these roles to create dynamic field positioning, and change the shape of your attack. Speaking of hockey, I wish they would take another shot at Eastside Hockey Manager with something like roles and duties, that would be amazing.

Grew up a Kings fan so hockey is part of my past time haha so I would loooooove a new Eastside Hockey manager. I've tried the Out of the Park Hockey version and while it's good, never really scratched the hockey itch And yea player roles can have so much effect on how your team's shape is formed; even a role like the Libero can transform what your team does in attack.

I used to like the idea of 4231 left back = complete wingback lw inside forward striker - advanced forward rw - winger right back - inverted fullback tended to give my left back a lot of space for good chances, but needed a good left back for this to ever work. also seeing Lanzini as a west ham fan breaks my heart, was such a special player before his injury :(

@zahreel3103
2 сағат бұрын
@@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker I sure hope so, but more than roles, I'd like more control on how you set up tactics. In the Championship Manager games of old, you were able to set up the team like you wanted both with the ball and without the ball. I hope the new engine will allow for such level of control. At the moment, for example, it's very difficult to dictate how deeper players, say in midfield, should press (especially in a 4-3-3). I'm hoping the new iteration of the game will cater for details like that.

Amazing as always man, honestly some of the best FM content out there!! I cannot express how much you’ve changed the way I think about tactics in FM. Am I right in believing that everything you teach here about formational space and creating it with roles also applies to exploiting the nature space of the opponents formation and roles? For example, if I play a 4-2-3-1 against a 4-3-3, when we play in our own half, I’d approach the game believing that a deep lying playmaker sitting in their natural pocket of space would allow us to cause all sorts of problems for the opponent, right? Also, would the space between the winger and the fullback not be considered space to exploit given the winger is in an AML/R space?
@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker
20 сағат бұрын
Yep, exactly. A DLP would sit in that hole of the defense so you can make them the focal point of your attack. And I alluded to it in this video, but it's also why the 10 playmaking role can sometimes struggle because often an opponent will be playing a 433 (so the 10 is playing in the same position as their DM.) Changing your formations like this is a good way to get an advantage on your opponent right away. On the other hand, if your opponent is playing a 442/4411, a 4231 will mean the 10 role has plenty of room since there's no DM. And I for the purposes of the video (and specifically comparing it with other formations), I didn't consider the space between the winger and full back. So it is space you an exploit, but it wasn't as much as if you didn't have a player there (if that makes sense lol) and thank you for the kind words!! I really enjoy this type of tactical discussion and videos and glad that others have enjoyed it as well

@@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker makes perfect sense, by the way - I played a game today with your advice in mind and played an AMC in the space left from a 4-4-2, we won 2-0 despite being the underdogs (thank you!) I played another game with a 4-2-3-1 using the variety suggestion you made against another 4-2-3-1 (again as underdogs) but that one didn’t go as planned:-) like you said in the video, sometimes even the right things don’t go your way, just take it on the chin and go again! Keep up the amazing work, really enjoying your channel!

@@dannymorton6930 well I'm glad you won! (and sorry you lost the other). Losing matches is not fun (stating the obvious 🤣) but it's a part of football. Even big clubs lose teams in real life, so it's only natural we feel the same effects in the game.

Apologies if you've answered this elsewhere, but I haven't seen it. Any thoughts on the FM orthodoxy that you can't play two playmakers? Would running a 4-2-3-1 with an AP at 10 and a Regista or DLP at one of the DMs create problems? I know the preset Tiki-Taka 4-3-3 has a midfield of an AP, RPM and DLP, but I've never liked Tiki-Taka so I haven't tried it. I've noticed you don't seem to use two playmaking roles in a tactic, but haven't heard you explicitly say that it's a bad idea, so curious. Thanks for the video as always.

Raumdeuter works better in a tactic which leans heavily to the opposite side to allow them to use the space left behind. There's no natural space in a 4231 for the Raumdeuter to exploit.
@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker
21 сағат бұрын
Yep, you could argue the Winger would fit better. But I liked the Raumdeuter and his interplay with the Segundo Volante so decided to go with it (and also because I use a Winger in like all of my 4231 tactics 🤣🤣)
