You are going overboard big time sanding. You only need to scuff up the surface then prime. Then 600 light sand and apply final coat. Light sand again for another coat or clear if the final coat covered. I've never seen anyone sand that much.

Damn you make it look easy and you have inspired me sir. I own an old Raidmax Alpha Prime White desktop case and I want to paint the inside of the case white to match the exterior. I want to make a whiteout build basically with all white components too like GPU and CPU cooler. I have always digged the white game consoles growing up and would like to make an all white Gaming PC.

What kinds of paint could we use? Has it to be spray? Can it be chalk paint or paint for metallic surfsces, or acrylic....?

You can pretty much alcohol clean it > self etch primer it > paint > clear coat.. No real need to sand so much if at all.

That's awesome! I have a question: it is possible to paint the cables from the fans and the dust filters without ruining them?
@AliOxen
3 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't paint the filter, only because the paint will likely reduce the airflow further. as far as the fan cables, they can be sleeved just like the psu cables. I'll work on a video for how to do that

Question, given the case will get hot inside, will it somehow warm up the paint and give out toxic fumes of some sort? Or is it not enough heat? Love the way it turned out by the way, thanks for the great video and great tips!
@AliOxen

I actually had the same concerns. Luckily, most of the standard rattle can paints don't run into issues until the flashpoint around 90F but the interior of the case should never get that hot

Two questions: first did you consider using a liquid deglosser rather than sanding? Second, it doesn't look like you primed. Were you not concerned? I am about to start painting a new case and I really don't want to have to sand everything but I am planning to prime it.

Yo this had a nice finish to it. Im about to start on my own case, and I am debating whether I should sand it down. Im painting the inside of a Corsair 4000D and it doesnt have a shiny finish off the factory paint. Would you advice to still sand it down? Im scared if I do, itll lose the texture it has.
@Doza17

Also, pretty awesome of you to showcase the rivet gun use. None of the other videos go that into the process, definitely a big help
@AliOxen
2 жыл бұрын
It really comes down to your skill and what you're looking for in the finish. There are painting methods that will give you that textured finished back but I don't know how they do it. I would advise you to sand before painting it just because it gives a longer lasting, and more durable paint job, but if that texture is important then nah, avoid the sanding if at all possible and do very light coats until you get the color coverage you're looking for. Its possible to still lose that texture if the paint job is too thick. And yeah, the rivet gun is definitely necessary to get a more factory finish for certain parts

I don't get why you would sand down to metal when the existing paint is already well bonded with it and already acting as a light primer. You're completely good to go after just scuffing the original paint.
@AliOxen
5 ай бұрын
Most of the information I looked at trying to paint metal all recommended the sand down but honestly, I would have preferred to not have to do all that work. I'll keep it in mind for the next one for sure
@nmmrg

@@AliOxen I'm guessing that the paint being well bonded already is just an assumption and they could have done a cheap job at it originally and sanding it down to metal guarantees a good finished product.

I mean you can just start painting but it wont have the best durability since its only holding on to the finish of the factory paint job. If you want to use paint stripper to get a cleaner finish without all the sanding, its doable. Sure you can paint over the stock paint job but I don't think it should be done. Whatever works for you though
