thank you very much for this helpful video (first time I ever disassembled a knife). the action on my Shaman was pretty bad from the start and it also always had some blade play. both is much, much better since I disassembled, cleaned, oiled, and re-assembled it. cheers!

I just took my Kizer Vanguard 4423 apart - it has ceramic bearings! It´s supposed to run on washers, but the bearing weren´t just put in there because they ran out of washers or something. There are really nicely machined races in the blade and the liners - in fact, most of the machining is really good. Exept for the detent ball hole. That looks like somebody just went in there with a hammer and a chisel, it´s not even round. The knife doesn´t run that smooth (but not too bad either now that I cleaned it, the detent is still wearing a path through the finish I think) and it badly needs a detent ball ramp (didn't feel like doing that today). But it was really easy to disassemble, there was no thread locker at all and its only three screws.I was able to kinda fix the centering, so Nick thank you for your advice! Also there was lots of crap in the action, some kind of red or brown media and other nasties. Really dirty knife, but I bought it brand new just today. Really weird knife, really weird. But I like it ... for the 40$ I paid :)

My knife came blue thread locked to the extreme. I just got one in October 2020. They glued the knife shut. It wouldn’t move at all. I used several hand tools and had to use a power drill to take it apart. Lol Once I cleaned all the junk out of my *brand new knife,* I was very happy with everything else.

I’ve been playing with my shaman all day... the knife not the, whatever you were thinking! So it was a nice surprise seeing this video posted. Happy thanksgiving from Superior township in Michigan. I know Nick said he was somewhere close to my location. I started watching your channel from looking for leatherman reviews and was very pleased to see you reviewed pocketknives as well! I’ve been a subscriber ever since. Keep up the good work! I love your sense of humor!

"Maybe micro adjustments" help, however, new or pre-owned", a tiny drop of Nano-oil on the pivot pin, and on the "inside track, would have gone a lot further. Oscar

I have the carbon fiber version, and the pivot adjustment is quite fussy..a very fine line between blade play, and drop shuttyness,(is that a word?) and mine has a bit of lock stick...thinking of buying the G10 version and swapping the S90v blade and CF scales..
@RonSpilker

Just got mine a few weeks ago. I dropped some knife lube near the pivot without taking it apart. Helped some. Been working it too. Still fairly stiff closing unless you use very firm pressure to move the lock all the way up against the wall. I think the only way you make it better is a looot of use, or tinker with the pivot. But you see here he took it to the edge of no blade play, and it still didn't entirely drop closed.

Morning Nick, I attempted to do the hair dryer trick to soften the loctite on the screws... Got the pivot screw lose no problem, but the 2 scale screws for the life of me will not budge. I hair dryed them each on a high setting for over 3 mins and they are solid. Is there anything else I can do to try and loosen them? I really want to get in there and lube the washers.

Try a soldering iron with the smallest detail tip you have, gives it more direct, higher heat.

Oh Nick..2+2 does not equal 5 not matter how much you'd like it to. Similarly, the name of this knife is pronounced Shah-min, no matter how good it makes you feel to say Shay-min. But seriously, thanks for.the video. I'll be disassembling my new Shah-min today to smooth out the closing action. Have a wonderful rest of your day! Bye now.

@fritz9830
4 жыл бұрын
Its called loctite. The BLUE kind. Its a threadlocker: it keeps screws from moving from vibrations and stuff. Blue loctite can be removed with a small amount of heat applied, from a soldering iron or hair dryer. Whatever you do, do NOT get the red loctite, as that is PERMANENT, and you will NEVER get the screws removed
