There is also the option of finding a recycling location near you. I know here in California you can typically take 1-10 Gallons to a local paint Suppler (Kelly-Moore, Sherwin-Williams, Benjamin Moore) and they will recycle it (since you're already charged a recycle fee at the time of purchasing your paint). You can also check paintcare.org if you are in one of those states to find a recycling location.

Rob, great tip, but do you know of its legal? The municipality here has sort of a paint amnesty day, and I always miss it, so I have a bunch of cans that need to go. I do know we can throw out empty cans with dried paint, but I'm not sure if the rule it based on volume, or the paint being dry. That was never really explained, or perhaps I just assumed the cans needed to be empty. This would be great as I could probably clear an entire shelf. Thanks.

Most amnesty days are for Oil-based paints. ITs legal for latex paint.

I run a building a we have a shed with all our law equipment, mowers, tractors, etc. some of the gas in cans that were buried behind some older equipment must be 10 yrs old or so. I wouldnt want to risk damaging any of our machines with that stuff. Huge fan of the channel btw . thanks

Actually, the best way to get rid of old paint is to cover up graffiti that little turds put on abandon buildings. Works great.
