Thank you. Have you ever used the elbow/forearm instead of a knuckle? Cheers.

Hi yes the forearm. Do you use an elbow?

@@ThePhysioChannel not a digging in elbow per se... more of a "flat" elbow if that makes sense?

I need to marry a PT who can do this to me DAILY! Self-manipulation of the first rib just doesn’t cut it.

Why put the left arm over your knee? And I was also wondering whats the goal of laterally flexing the head?

Good questions. I think the positioning is designed to stabilise the patient and relax the muscles around the 1st rib. It's not a technique I use in clinic just one I learnt and added to the channel for future reference.

I have had tightness in this area for years. I'm always massaging that trap area. Moreoever, this side is overworked when i exercise (weakness in shoulder and elbow - my arms are even bigger on this side). However, i recently suffered an ulnar nerve entrapment (extreme pain from behind clavicle, rhomboid and down arm to pinky numbness). Doctor thinks it's a herniation (without even examining me), but i'm convinced it's overuse in this shoulder. Any feedback would be appreciated.

@@nicolasclermont893 my ulnar nerve pain has more or less gone with appropriate exercise (also take vitamin d and magnesium supplements) But I still have tightness in thoracic and trap area (mainly on one side). This will increase if i go back to my previous intensive workout regime. Thus, I am going to hire a physio to help with the muscle imbalance.
