Intermittent fasting is a eating pattern NOT a diet as it focuses on timing of meal not what you eat
There are different types of intermittent fasting like 12:12, 16:8, 5:2 etc
The most popular one is 16:8 where the fasting window is for 16 hours and feeding window is for 8 hours.
And in 5:2 you eat a normal diet for 5 days in a week and the rest 2 days you eat less than 500 calories almost like fasting.
During the feeding window you can eat anything i.e you can follow a normal diet and while fasting you can non caloric beverages like regular water, black coffee, black tea, green tea or just lime water.
Intermittent fasting can be a very useful tool for weightloss as it restricts eating time window but there is no much evidence whether it helps to cure bp, cancer etc
Children, teens, pregnant, lactating mothers, diabetic, people who have eating disorders, underweight and elderly should not try intermittent fasting.
