I use to think it was all about core strength. But then I realized, its also hamstring and quad strength.

Flexibility in the hamstrings and glutes is also necessary, plus hip flexor strength to get that perfect 90° angle between the legs and body and particularly strength in the rectus femoris which is going to help keep the leg in perfectly extended and flexed at the knee. Don't forget latissimus dorsi and triceps are going to be responsible for holding your weight, with the rest of the muscles in the posterior chain being active to stabilise that perfectly flat and stabilised structure. But yes, the "core" is going to be active but that's a given since L sits are a total body exercise.

It does matter to a certain extent people with longer and bigger limbs have the fulcrum father away from the end of their arm so it’s harder to hold up, and people with shorter bodies also burn less calories to move and exercise

Used to do floor L sits easily, and had never practiced them or been an athlete. I’m not especially strong, but at 60 I can almost do them. But the difficulty does depend a lot on body proportions.

I know guys who has the worst possibly combination and after 15 years of training still has problem with standard press from Lsit to handstand.
