In the first 5 minutes of this video, I learned more concepts than in 10 years reading books or watching other teachers online. Might be that the previous watching made it more easy to understand your concepts and way of thinking. Thanks for sharing your info.

I have spent years studying the likes of Bridgeman, Horgarth and other books on figure drawing and you just made it all crystal clear in such a short time. My eternal thanks. You certainly know your subject and are a master at using your tools, and the eye hand coordination that you possess. Have drawn for years and never really knew how to sharpen a pencil or it's potential. You are a gift!

Clarity regarding the differences between cast shadows and core shadow is done so well in this excellent demo. Seeing the start placement of the direction of light source relative to the model and the page is brilliant.

What I find especially useful about these videos is your moment-by-moment commentary as you are drawing. Understanding the process and reasoning behind motions is incredibly helpful, so thank you.

I too, as many others have said, find your mastery of the principles of figure drawing to be of great inspiration. This lecture has rekindled my perspective regarding my own use, or I should say- lack of use, of the basic teachings that have been passed down through the ages. Thank you for your time and consideration for we, the interested viewers and ongoing students of art, beauty, and the mastery of same. Arthur

It's very useful t see how an artists looks at a form, how the landmarks are developed and how that transitions into the expression of the form. I"m still confused on how this develops so rapidly, but I guess that's part of the learning process.

This made something click with me. I'm new to drawing seriously and havent thought about the mass and forces of the figure. It's hard to articulate but especially talking about how the arm is leaning and pushing up the shoulder thus letting the trunk there drape a bit.

amazing videos. i was just wondering, how can you have a cast shadow within the shadow, like the one there is between the buttocks? i thought something like that would be either occlusion or some form shadow created by the reflected light. is it a conceptual thing like sort of the modelling tone that you put towards the edges of the lit side of the forms?

Being relatively new to Drawing. I have issues with putting core shadows on my drawings which are not actually there. Such as the core shadows facing the light on the extreme right side of the figure. I agree it makes the drawing look a lot better. I presume that's why it is ART>

Thank you master, is there a method to draw the human figure without looking at the model posing? Do cartoonists use the model in their work?
@KarlGnassStudios
3 жыл бұрын
Yes, you can draw the figures from your imagination from your knowledge and ideas. That's what I teach in my classes: figuredrawingschool.com Check it out. And, rarely do cartoonist, animators, storyboard artists draw from figure poses in their work. The simplest way to say it is, they are given turn around models and once the specifics of a model is understood, say "Aladdin", then all poses and actions come from the artist's head.
