I found that after I prepared my apples by quartering them, I could freeze them for a day then put them in my press. This eliminated crushing the apples. Particularly useful tip if I am making gallons of juice for wine.

I've just bought a press - just the 6L one, to press apples from my allotents. i was grateful for this useful talk through and demo as I wanted to see how to put the press together accurately and use it safely. The apple crushing bit with the fence post in the bucket was hugely useful as I didn't have a scratter (very expensive for how often you use it) so used two bits of 3 x 2 screwed together with a piece of broom handle screwed horizontally at the top and found smashing the chopped apples very theraputic and takes two or three minute as you said. i got two litres+ out of my first pressing. Thanks Huw, I'll be subscribing. Top video.

bharath Kachila You can grind it slowly. and then press it and take out the juices. That's fine. What should not be done is to use a blender or high speed centrifuge machine. because the blades oxidize the fruit with the air and kill the enzymes when they cut at high speed. with a masticating juicer of 80 RPM. yes. @alexmckee4683

Lots of different varieties makes for interesting colour. It is also thicker, lightly strained so it has more apple pommace in suspension, and it hasn't been treated yet. After it stands for a while the solids in suspension can drop down.

@alexmckee4683

Pasteurization, followed by bottling into sterilised bottles. Juice processed in this way is shelf stable at room temperature for about six months, more if you take extra care and store in a cool place e.g. cellar.

How many pounds of apple per litre
@alexmckee4683
2 жыл бұрын
Depends on the varieties of apple used, it can be as much as 50% yield so 2 kg (4.4 lbs) could yield approximately 1 litre. An old fashioned orchard tree crop in a good year is about 250 kg, even a small garden tree can have as much as 70 kg of apples, so potentially 35 litres of juice could be realised from a backyard apple tree.

Uhm, well idk about in britain. But in the Us, all storebought apples are up to 15 months old and coated with tons of wax and stripped of essential nutrients so even making your own apple juice is not as good as real apple juice. but it is way better than drinking the nasty juices that all stores label as real juice, no matter what they say, it is all no good .. grow your own and make your own. I have made my own grape juice with a grape vine, it was so much different than all that junk at the store, even the stuff they call organic had no comparison. It was just that good. Don't trust stores people, lol.
