Escaping side control pins aren't an easy task if you're trying to use traditional frames against good opponents. It's important to take away your opponents leverage points that are keeping you flat in order to escape tighter pins. Sometimes the slightest adjustment in you elbow positioning can make all the difference in the amount of effort you need to turn to your side and initiate your escape.
1) Feet on floor to help keep your self on your side.
2) Inside position with the arms, especially far side arm elbow.
3) Block crossface by pummeling hand under.
