I’m working with a coach from nerd fitness. He is awesome! He fits all the criteria this video discussed and well worth the money.

I'm gonna be the first one to be crazy with the Burpees = 👍 😂 😂 😂 Haven't programmed one for a client in a long time though because most people don't feel the same love towards them as I do and it's all about what you personally enjoy!

Took two classes with a personal trainer. He commented that I had a good physique but my thighs jiggled whenever I did a squat. Never trusted a PT ever again.

Burpees ever so 👎 Great tips. I certainly didn’t check all of these with my previous trainer, and whilst he’s awesome, he’s not really right for me. Fortunately I got super-lucky with my current coach... 😁😂

How do you find a trainer who has experience helping someone with a herniated disc? I've tried to find someone local, and they all say they can help, but last time I did one of those free personal training things at a local gym, my back flared up.

Great question. If you're meeting with a trainer, then ask them to specifically tell you about a time they helped someone with a similar situation - not just a "can you help?" (because they'll always say yes) Another good option is to ask around to your friends! A friend of a friend might have dealt with something similar (as back and disc pain is common enough) Last thing - ask your doctor or physical therapist for a recommendation. They will often have a network of personal trainers that they trust. Hope this helps!

The trainer I'm starting with doesn't have a written plan. He says he has everything in his head. Sigh. Wouldn't this be necessary? My old trainer had a proper plan, it was a 3 month plan with room for adjustment.

Coach Jim here! - In my experience, somewhere in the middle worked best for me. I'd come in with a rough idea of what we wanted to do, based on assessments and initial conversations. I would definitely write down everything we did in the session so I could adjust and build off that! And then I wouldn't write out a longer program until we had a couple sessions under the belt and I knew the Client's preferences a bit better. Then that longer program would always be up for discussion and adjustment. Hope this helps!

Which fitness certifications are legitimate?

Great question! It'll vary slightly by geography (as Canada as a few extra), but in U.S. a certification from NASM, ACE, ISSA, NFPT, or ACSM are all solid.
