Thanks!!! Moen should pay you for use of your video to demonstrate this repair! The leak fix worked perfectly for me, but it was the loose cover solution that impressed me. Moen had sent me a replacement kit but when I took the faucet apart weeks ago, I discovered nothing was broken. Moen's directions on how to reinstall the cover failed me and I set the project aside for a few weeks. Then, one day the faucet leaked in the same manner you describe. I found your video and followed it to a T. The cover went back on perfectly this time and actually stayed on! And my wife was appreciative that not a single expletive came floating out of the kitchen in the whole process.

I had a different style Moen single handle faucet that was leaking... and with the help of your video, I fixed it in 5 minutes. My handle sits directly above the pullout spray head and it was easier to remove than the one in your video. For mine, I just had to pry out a small black rubber stopper on the front face of the handle. Then I used the correct allen wrench size (from this video - thank you!) and was able to find the release in just seconds. Thank you also for your comment about not unscrewing the set screw the whole way! I just turned mine a few times until I felt it give way and the head came right off. Bamm! Then I removed the decorative cover and found the ring that needed to be tightened. And sure enough, it was loose and I was able to easily turn it 1/4 turn to snug it up. I would like to reinforce what you said in your video said... Do Not Overtighten! Use your adjustable wrench with care (only 2 fingers) until you feel it get it tight. Then stop and test your work. Thank you again!!!

This is a great video! Thanks for taking the time to make and share it. If I can add something - I tightened up the plastic nut that holds the cartridge in, and it solved the leak . . . for a while. About 3 months later I noticed water in my cabinet under the sink. It looked like the source was a leaky stainless braided hose at the lower connection. But it wasn't. It was leaking from the cartridge and dripping down the hoses. The actual cartridge needed replacement. About $22 at my local Ace Hardware. Super easy to replace. It's the Moen 1255 Duralast handle replacement cartridge.

Easy to do. All your suggestions along the way worked very well. One suggestion, instead of trying to access the hex nut from underneath, rotate the handle to more accessible position. This is only temperature control so it doesn't matter. Thank you for posting. My first guess was that it was some sort of o-ring replacement, but your fix was simple and quick.

Thanks for your video. My faucet was leaking from the handle, then eventually started leaking underneath as well. I called a plumber and they wanted $235 to "rebuild the faucet" and replace all of the washers, etc. inside. They said they don't stock Moen parts, so it's a difficult job. Or $350 to replace the whole faucet, which they recommended. It's only 3 years old, so I researched online and then called Moen who sent me a FREE new cartridge (and crappy instruction). Your video helped me figure out how to put the handle back on properly.

So, I get up Sunday morning to go to church and my kitchen is flooded. This needs to be fixed right now (my ox is in the mire). I removed everything from under the sink and wiped up about a gallon of water and start looking for the source of the leak. My Moen faucet is just like the one in the video except it is oil rubbed bronze. I watched Nick’s video and found it is just what I needed. Watched it a second time to get everything in my mind, gathered up the 3/32” hex wrench and an adjustable wrench and went to work. Had to watch the part about the set screw for the third time because I not the handiest person on the planet. Put the faucet back together, did the leak test - FIXED! Better get going or I will be late for church; praise the LORD (and KZitem). Thanks, Nick.

Thanks Nick for the guidelines to get "into" this model faucet. This Moen has a lot of plastic parts inside and for some reason they tend to loosen every couple of years. Folks with this model should keep an eye out for future minor leaking. I don't know if the plastic parts shrink with use and age; is that the reason for loosening of the valve. So, plan on having to re-tighten this faucet; keep these instructions handy.

Had the same leak issue. My Mown doesn’t have the “drum” between the handle and main fixture. I still went to Moen’s site to ensure I was doing the right thing. Unlike yours, I do have to go “deep in”. Two weird things, to loosen the screw I have to go clockwise. Also - my Kobalt Allen wrench wouldn’t fit. Good thing I stopped by Lowe’s and grabbed a Craftsman tool similar to yours as it works. Also, I can’t tell when the Allen wrench engaged the screw. Made the process much more difficult. The plastic cartridge was Very loose. Am waiting for tomorrow before reinstalling the handle as I monitor for leaks (I did have water under the counter). Thanks, again, for the video!

Thanks for posting! I was having difficulties finding a video that covered a SIDE single-handle faucet, and this gave me all the info I needed, including hex-wrench size & your comment about the wrench going in "too far". I also have a "thick" hex-wrench tool like yours, and was struggling (like you) to find the optimal angle & rotation to work with it, whereas quickly removing the 3/32" wrench will save A LOT of hassle. :-) If I may add something else ... while you have your water taps closed, the handle & decorative cover off, and a wrench handy to unscrew the joystick from the faucet, you might as well take the joystick off (using the adjustable wrench), remove the cartridge, and quickly clean out any debris in there, and then re-assemble just like Nick showed.

Mine was a similar Moen model with the same issue. I removed the handle and the cartridge cover. In my model, the nut was a metal one. I tightened it with an adjustable wrench. The cartridge cover would go on back fully with the cartridge lever in the closed position only. Then I had to use a flat head screw driver to push down the lever, put the handle over it and then tighten the allen screw. No more leaks and it feels tight too. Thanks for sharing! PS: I like the little poster in the top left corner, funny ;-)

This video was very informative. I did however still have a bit of leaking. What I did to address that was to loosen the cartridge, remove it, and wrap it with thread tape (sealant tape). After that, I haven't had a leak since. Wouldn't have gotten that far without the video so thanks again. Hope that helps anyone out there who may have still had a leak after tightening the cartridge. (Darn you Moen!! ((Shakes Fist))

Moen can supply a new rubber washer kit that would do the same. They would rather you don't use tread tape because many people put too much adding stress to the retaining nut which is plastic and the housing which is delicate. Not to mention if the leak is that bad it is because of a worn out cartridge. There's a reason moen will mail you a new one for free. They're inexpensive low quality faucets.
