Hi Chris! Loving what you are doing on your podcast. I think you bring on some fantastic guests. Dr Paul Conti was brilliant! I thought you might want to reach out to Dr Howard Schubiner- he has brilliant insight to chronic pain. He did a video called ‘this is going to hurt’ deffo worth a watch Bradley

The doctor is correct about trauma smacking you around insidiously even when you either don't realize you have it or you know, but it happens anyway. It's frustrating because you still have things you want or need to do and you are not about to hide behind some ideology that says the entire world can never traumatize you in any way. The traffic experience is a perfect example. They are like forces of nature. And if your triggers are basic stuff, they are going to happen all the time. You can't just sit in your room and wonder when it will be safe to go outside again.

Hmmm Ya this concept resonates like wisdom Myself I cant ever tell what is best for me. Do whatever needs doin and fear not? Or, Calculate and measure every variable that is or could eventually become a personal threat? I suspect there needs to be a balance regardless of the angle/degree. I am not educated, equipped, or most importantly asked to discern or advise others of their well being. From my perspective, I fear not. I don’t recommend it or disregard it. It makes a massive difference to me both positive and negative. I am just aware of it. Thx Chris

There is sometimes a misunderstanding of CBT There are low level CBT interventions which I agree are like polishing the hood of the car but a good high intensity CBT will conceptualise beliefs and the source of those beliefs and will endeavour to help the client create those new narratives most certainly. It just can not be done in 6 sessions. The issue here is the health care system pitching it as that! Private therapists know it takes longer and can take years. I admire and look forward to hearing Dr Contis insights as they are so in the money and it’s rare to get this sort of content from a Psychiatrist in my view

If anything, it took me far too long to lose my confidence and to realize how much of a loser I really am. After thousands of repetitions of being good but not quite good enough, I'd be a fool to consider myself anything but what reality has deemed me. I know this is exactly the type of negative thinking you're referring to throughout this video and it would be helpful to ignore it for more positive affirmations. However, these negative thoughts are based in fact and have been established over a 30+ year track record of lower mediocrity.

I had the same thoughts about being stupid or dumb. But then after some realizations and reframing how I spoke to myself, it got better over time. If I did something stupid, I didn't call or label myself stupid but that I just did a stupid thing. At the same time, it's as equally important to acknowledge when you do something good and when you do or say something smart. Be kind to how you speak to yourself because it really becomes your reality.

Buddha did it first. This is the EXACT core of Buddhist thought. It's ALL about reprogramming your brain to get at altering your subconscious perception and reaction. The parallels to the science that Dr. Conti describes are almost exactly 1:1 with Buddhist teaching. To hear him talk about "insight" is exactly the "Vipassana" in Vipassana meditation. It's amazing (to me, anyways) that this is 2500 year old analysis and how relatively little of this is new, save the brain scans.

You do not suck. You matter. Pick one small thing. Walk ten minutes, stretch, journal, read a certain # pages, drink enough water… pick one small challenge. Make a promise to yourself, in the smallest way. Keep that promise to yourself. Build on personal integrity one tiny step at a time. That’s the only way. You matter. Infinitely. And collectively to everyone else. The negativity is your unconscious mind/underwater iceberg. Bring it into the light. Melt it! And perhaps most importantly, listen to this podcast again. Let this message get in! Get rid of your current inputs, they’re not serving you. Find peace. Start again. Do it anyway. You are not alone. Someone else will need your story when you get to the other side. And you will.
