Here are some general troubleshooting steps in case you have any issues: 1. Did you watch the entire video, and follow the directions exactly? 2. Is the USB drive formatted with FAT32 rather than NTFS or exFAT? 3. Do you have file extensions enabled in Windows Explorer? 4. Did you download the latest BIOS file for your motherboard? 5. Did you rename the BIOS file as MSI.ROM? 6. Is the BIOS file in the root of the USB drive? 7. Is the USB drive in the correct port (the one labeled BIOS)? 8. Are both power supply cables plugged into the motherboard? 9. Did you plug in the USB drive before you turned the power supply on? 10. If you already fully assembled your system, do NOT turn on the system with the case power button 10a. Just make sure the power suppy is turned on and plugged into a power source 11. Are you using a USB 2.0 flash drive instead of a USB 3.0 flash drive (USB 2.0 seems to work much better)? 12. Did the BIOS flash LED on the motherboard flash for 5-6 minutes, and then stop flashing? This blog post has more details, including FAQs: Flashing Your BIOS with No CPU Installed (bit.ly/3kfHjWe) This blog post talks about USB 2.0 drives and how to identify them. These videos are helpful, but why do you not say what to expect after the flashing is complete? I feel like you're not telling viewers what the success conditions are. Should I expect the machine to restart and POST? Second question: Would this work if I'm downloading the BIOS update and copying to a USB drive in OS X? I don't have a windows machine, this is one I'm building with my daughter. It's a Ryzen 5 5600X on an MSI MPG B550 Gaming Carbon Wifi board, so it needs a BIOS update, but following these directions and the CPU diagnostic LED is remaining lit.
@GlennBerrySQL
3 жыл бұрын
@@scdemandred I have added more information about how to tell when it is done in later videos that I have made in this series. If the BIOS flash LED was blinking for 5-6 minutes, it probably worked. The only way to tell for sure is to assemble the system and see if it will POST. For the second question, it is normal for the CPU diagnostic LED to be on after doing this. The BIOS sees a new CPU (that it can now recognize). You will have to press the F1 key to go into the BIOS setup (and you should see a message saying that). Finally, do you have a discrete GPU? The Ryzen 5 5600X does not have integrated graphics. A common mistake is that people don't have a discrete GPU (video card) or they do have one, but they plug their monitor into one of the video ports on the motherboard instead of one of the ports on the video card. If you do that you won't get a video signal to your monitor.
@scdemandred
3 жыл бұрын
@@GlennBerrySQL Thanks for replying! Yes, I have a GPU installed. The board is not POSTing; there's no beep, and no display, just the PSU, the RGB fans, and the RAM RGB keeps running. I will try hitting F1 just in case that's the answer. If that doesn't work, I'm going to try taking out all the components and reattempting the FlashBios.
@GlennBerrySQL
3 жыл бұрын
@@scdemandred You don't actually have to remove all of the components to use this method. Just make sure to NOT turn on the system normally with the case power switch. You don't want it "running". Just make sure it is plugged in, and the PSU switch is turned on (if it has one). Then follow the steps in the video to flash the BIOS. Before you do that, you might try removing/replacing the CMOS battery to clear the CMOS. Sometimes that resolves problems that are keeping it from POSTing.

I have tried everything about 10 times. 5 different flash drives, formatted FAT39 via Bootice, MacOS, everything. I cannot get my MSI B550 MPG mini ITX board to flash. Here is what it does: after I press the flash button on the back of the MB it will have a steady flash for about 10 seconds then stop, the CPU led will light up and the fan will turn on followed by a faster flash that lasts forever (I usually shut it down after 30 minutes). Does anyone have any thoughts? I'm just going to return the board and get something else tomorrow. I've never wasted this much time trying to flash a board - I must be doing something wrong! Are there any boards that work out of the box for the 5000 series CPUs? I typically have an older CPU lying around but this is my first AMD since Athlon and I'm not happy.

Did you try using a small capacity (like 4-8GB) USB 2.0 flash drive? All B550 and X570 motherboards that were manufactured before roughly late September will need to be flashed to work with Ryzen 5000 processors. Eventually, newer production stock will show up in the retail channel that will have a new enough BIOS version where flashing the BIOS won't be necessary.

If your CPU is already compatible with the motherboard BIOS version, out of the box, you don't need to do this. OTOH, AMD is pushing out pretty frequent AGESA updates to make Ryzen 5000 series processors work better. You might want to wait a month or two for things to settle down, and then use the regular M-Flash BIOS utility to update to the latest BIOS version then.

That means that something is wrong with the USB drives that you have tried. It must be small capacity (16GB or less) USB 2.0 drive. You also have to follow all the other directions exactly. It must be formatted in FAT32, the BIOS file must be renamed MSI.ROM, it must be at the root of the drive, etc. You also need to make sure you downloaded the correct BIOS fril for your motherboard, no a different model motherboard. What exact motherboard brand and model do you have? You mention "the X570 motherboard", so I don't really know what you have. Your system probably won't POST or boot with a Ryzen 5 5600X in a brand new B550 motherboard, because the BIOS version that was on the motherboard when it was manufactured is not new enough to support Ryzen 5000 processors. You can get around that by using the method demonstrated in the video to update the BIOS to a new enough version to support Ryzen 5000 processors. Glenn, I have followed your Tutorial step by step. I have read all comments, reset the CMOS and changed the battery with new ones. I have tried multiple graphics cards and yet I am getting no display at all. I have the same motherboard. Please help as soon as possible, let me know if you need any other details.

Is this a fully assembled system? What CPU do you have? What GPU do you have? Is your monitor plugged into the GPU, or the video output from the motherboard? What (if anything) happens when you turn your system on? Any lights on or fans spinning?

@@GlennBerrySQL I have tried this both stripped as you showed in the video and fully assembled. I have a Ryzen 5 5600x Graphics card is - GTX 1050TI 4GB Gigabyte and a rubbish basic Sapphire card. Ones the flashing stops it restarts. I turn it off to put everything together, then turn it back on, all my computer fans turn on including the CPU fan and CPU red light, however, there is no graphics at all. I have used the graphics cards HDMI and Display Port as I know it doesn't have integrated card.

can this be done with components installed? (CPU, memory, etc)

Yes. The system needs to be plugged in, with the power supply switch turned on, but don't turn the system on with the case power button. After that, just follow the directions in the video.
