Last summer I managed to escape to the Outer Hebrides for a bit of wild camping on the fabulous beaches of North Uist. One morning I woke up, and whilst munching on my cornflakes I noticed a large red hairy mass on the beach. At first I couldn't work out what it was exactly but then it dawned upon me that it was a Highland cow sat on a wild white Scottish beach, I just knew at that point that it was going to be a magical moment. I slowly got down onto the beach and realised that I somehow needed to get the cow against the skyline of the machair, so I crept along the seas edge until I was in position. My heart stopped when he stood up, but just before he wandered off along the beach he stopped and looked at me in the pose that I have managed to capture.
Once home I developed it on the computer and I was amazed at just how good the photograph was and I decided to post it on the BBC Scotlands photo of the day and it got an incredible response, I was really pleased.
I decided to get it run off as a print at 96inches by 56 inches and get it framed for my own home and this is a little film that I made about that process with the assistance of my good friend Chris Wright from Milltown Framers.
