i have the joel wanasek bus glue collection and its amazing. But i will probably be getting the JST BG series as well. i want to have a variety to do a variety of things. imo joels series is best suited for more aggressive styles but it looks like JST BG might be more versatile. i think both have their place. joels bass bus glue is probably the best in my opinion but from demos ive heard i like what the JST BG Drums does as well. And depending on the mix i might choose some things for Joels and others i might choose the JST BG Mix bus compressor.

This bass bus compression trick is gold! I've been using this technique, works really great! Drum Bus compression is cool, but Hi Hats can be a nightmare.

Synth bus compression video would be nice, my main question would be, when you have ambient / backing track synths and lead synths would you work them in distinct busses or all on the same bus. Also, if you have a choir acting as a backround layer would that also go into the vocal bus?

I want to see Miami cover a video on multi and compression in good detail for a mix bus or mastering. I’m finding it holds my mix together perfectly where I want it, but also find it way easy to overdo

It still makes my head sore understanding how something can sound louder than something else when it isn't (demonstrated in the bass bus limiting part)... Like how is that possible and what is going on in our ears to cause this? Physics be wild, mang.

There's 3 main reasons! If you imagine a bass guitar, it has lots of fundamental frequencies in it (the "note" that the string makes) and lots of overtones (all the frequencies above that make the bass guitar sound like a bass and not a sine wave) when you maximise a signal you allow these overtones to come up and give the illusion of loudness. Secondly imagine a your bass guitar is very dynamic even in one note the start of it is much louder than the end of the note, when you maximise it you allow the whole note to be pinned at a consistent level which will make your ears perceive it as louder. Thirdly saturation generates and enhances existing harmonics in the signal that tell your brain that something appears to be louder. A fun way to visualise all this is to open up a bass track and low pass filter it until its just a sine wave and play around with the settings on saturations, distortions, compression, limiters and maximisers so you can see and hear what is happening to the signal. Then when you fo those things on a full signal you will have more of an idea of what you're adding and taking away from each part of the signal 😊 I realise now that might not be fun for most people but it's still a cool learning exercise!

Out of curiosity, when you mention that the individual vocal tracks have compression on them do you mean on the way in or on the inserts or both? I'm always confused about that and never know if I should apply compression to individual vocal tracks and then apply vocal bus compression or if I should only compress on the vocal bus. Thanks

Man I've been waiting for this episode to come out to help me with bus glue for the jw guitar bus glue but you had it set at 0 for both parameters I'm still at a loss for it setting it up as every time it sounds like poop on my mixes. Chug slayer is great for that multiband compression but man I can't get it to sit well overall :/ any tips would greatly be appreciated.
