I'd like to learn the handstand. I can do some intermediate stuff like bent arm planches, frogstand to bent arm handstand, L sit pullups and dragon flags and it feels weird that I can't do a handstand. Living in a metropolitan in India in lockdown mode in a small house where there are barely any walls to handstand against is a problem, tho. My question is, how do I overcome the fear of trying to kick up and land my feet against the wall? I feel like if I try, my feet will slide and I'll end up falling sideways and twist my spine. Baseless fear, I know. But I can't help it. Any advice?
@AshtonFitness

One way to overcome the fear of doing handstands is to do handstand kick ups (also called handstand reps). I know that in my case, handstand kick ups helped me to gain the confidence to hold the handstand without a wall. This video explains them. Skip to 2:14 kzitem.info/news/bejne/urCix3qtsoSmrYY&t Hope this helps!

Great video! Straight forward and to the point I like it! Question; have you had previous gymnastics experience? I'm starting out with calisthenics and was thinking of going to an open gym to focus on specific techniques such as the handstand. Bottom line, I want to know if it's even necessary. Thanks!

Hey Jack, only just saw this! I used to do gymnastics when I was a tiny kid, so actually the handstand practise that I did always stuck with me. You don't need gymnastics experience to learn the handstand though! Glad you enjoyed the video, and I hope your training is going well :D

I'll make some videos about this in the future :) Subscribe so you don't miss them. My main tip for avoiding shoulder injuries, though, is to strengthen the muscles around the scapula and the serratus anterior. Hope this helps.

The time it takes to learn a calisthenics skill is different for each person. The handstand is tricky, so it may take 1-6 months.
