Such a FANTASTIC video Elisabeth :-) so many people get confused with all three and this is so well explained :-) the blooms on yours are all absolutely BEAUTIFUL :-) thanks a million for sharing and sending you an abundance of love and happy growing from Ireland for a FANTASTIC weekend ahead XXXXX
WOW! What beautiful cacti you have! Amazing amount of flowers. They must be very happy where they are placed. I found that out myself with the "Christmas" cactus, if they aren't happy in just the right spot with the proper care they won't grow well, let alone flower. Thank you for clearing up for me why one of my cactuses looked different from the other even though they were similar. So the spiked one with wider segments is the Thanksgiving cactus, ok. Not sure if I had heard of the Easter Cactus before, or if I did I didn't know that it was very similar to the others. Thanks for posting such an informative and lovely video! Peace, Gary

Christmas Cactus plants don't get to old to Bloom ! The reason it's not blooming is it's not getting it's cool , dry rest period in the Fall ,also they are photoperiodic ( shorter daylight ) . The Christmas Cactus can live a hundred years or more & often blooming several times a year! The old fashioned Christmas Cactus is actually a hybrid of the Thanksgiving Cactus & the Easter Cactus. The reason the Thanksgiving Cactus has larger stem segments is the result of a breeding program that about 20 years ago with the Giant Thanksgiving Cactus ( Zygocactus orichianna ) & the common Thanksgiving Cactus (Zygocactus truncatus) the result is larger , more upright blooms & longer blooming ! Also a broader color range !

I'm on the hunt for the true Christmas cactus Schlumbergera, that isn't the fuscia color. I started a fuscia one about 30 years ago from grandmother plant. I need more colors if you now of where I can get any, let me know. I don't want Thanksgiving or Easter ones as I have had both

yeah i have a couple of very old christmas cactus ones that are 30plus years old which belonged to my grandma.the large one i rooted from a very old christmas cactus that was hers.its very sad i never see the true christmas cactus anymore although one time i bought one in year 2000 that was the last time i could remember seeing them in stores.i searched online even well known florist has them named christmas when they are thanksgiving.only thing i have seen online is if you go on ebay or something and people do sell cuttings,or join a plant group im fb im in a few.hope you do fine one.

I know exactly what you are saying, I've been hunting a bit and no luck. Everyone calls their Thanksgiving cactus a Christmas cactus when they are selling! I may get one of these in the spring even though it looks like a thanksgiving one, I want yellow! www.farmerseed.com/store/1709-christmas-yellow-cactus

If you are on Facebook join the Holiday Cactus Sellers. There are people there that sell cuttings from the original Christmas Cactus. I have seen people selling on eBay, but also have read comments on line saying they have not shipped what they say they are shipping. Also check outwww.whittongreenhouses.com
