New subscriber here. I have been working on a 30 year old toilet to get it to flush and have decided that the toilet needs to be replaced. It will flush if I pour a bucket of water in the bowl, but not if I flush normally. I tried several tricks to make the jets work to flush properly. So now am watching your video to see the procedure. Thanks for your instructions, they make sense to this homeowner. Keep up the good work!

IThanks, friend. I just brought home a Cimarron from Lowe's. I don't see a flange, hoping there will be one when I remove the old toilet. Guess I will go get another wax ring too. I might suggest that you caution folks against tightening too much- I am just a homeowner, not pro, and I did crack a tank with too much tightening. I thought tighten more-leak less, until I cracked the tank. Now that is fun. Thanks for the good vid!

I have that problem on a brand new Cimmaron toilet, it was professionally installed. Water leaks out when flushed so it’s leaking at the gasket. it seems the plastic flange is bottoming out so theres no compression on the gasket. What would cause that?
@radikaldesignz
Жыл бұрын
Just had the same issue as Ken nak. Only, we broke it trying to tighten it down so it wouldn't leak from the 2 bolts on either side. We were thinking maybe the gaskets for those bolts that were packaged with it were the wrong ones. And I mean the tank sat too high on the bowl, so the bolts could not be tightened to the point where there was compression on the left and right gaskets.

I've got to replace toilets in my house and I appreciate your video but one thing I'm stuck on is all three toilets in my house have the drain in a different location. The bolts are 11 in away from the wall in one bathroom, 12 in another and 13 in another. Finding out what size toilet to buy is my biggest frustration.
@nathangould2856

Hello, I had to replace my toilet, it was leaking at the base. It was the original toilet that came with the house, installed 32 years ago. When I removed it I saw a 3/4" crack in the wax ring right where the water was leaking, but not sure if that was the cause of the leak. Worse, the closet flange was installed 90 degrees off from how it is supposed to be installed, also it was bent up where the flange bolts sit, making it very difficult to have the bolt remain seated. I didn't know how to remove the flange with a sawz-all as you did, I wish you could have shown that in more detail. My flange is one piece glued to the ABS 3" ID pipe. I couldn't really make it work, so I added a Danco Hydroseal flange repair ring which sits above the floor level. I compressed a wax ring under it, then set the toilet on top of that. So far it works great no leaks, but not sure if that will work for the long term. It seems the test will come if there is a backup creating back pressure on the connection the rubber hydroseal and the toilet.

So its coming through your second story? Are you using 2 wax rings? Do you have cast Iron Drain lines? How Old is the house? If you dont see the leak on the floor of your bathroom and you are just seeing it in your ceiling then its %100 going to be related to either the drain line or the wax seal.
@tonyhwang3888

Wonder if you you tried to reset the toilet or jiggled after toilet is in place. When using wax ring it is sort of one shot deal after you toilet is set down. Otherwise you have to redo the whole process with new wax ring. Common cause of leaking. Why don't you try waxless seal which has no such issue. Fluid Master, Korky, Danco are some of well known brand.

Carla Troupe you need one wax ring without the plastic horn or flange as I call it and one with. The wax ring with the plastic horn sits on top of the other wax ring. All wax rings as far as I know are the same size. I’ve done that some times when I’m working under a ledge or a banjo I think is what they call the countertop ledge that goes over the toilet sometimes but normally I like to completely assemble it, throw it over my shoulder walk it in the house and set it. I typically prep everything then go assemble the toilet, then I walk it in and set it. Then I check to be sure it’s level and straight, tank is tight etc and I’ll tighten it down. @@tonyhwang3888 supposedly they will last just as long or longer, they’ve got some plus’s like I don’t think you can blow them out like you can by overplunging with wax. Is it true that the deep seal wax with the gasket/rubber is not very reliable? One guy on yutube said it causes the toilet to shift and messes up the placement of the wax then cause leaks. I'm installing my toilet as i speak and cannot decide if I should use it or just a regular wax that came with the kohler toilet. I just recommend using normal wax ring and a wax ring with horn. Don't use the rubber ring instead of the wax. I have a friend at Fluidmaster he says they have over 3 million sold without a claim filed yet but I still don't trust them like I do the old fashioned wax rings.

Great video. Huge help. Im having a problem though with my Kohler tank. It has a different set up with 3 rubber covered bolts already installed in the tank. Then you place on bowl to compress the gasket. The problem is one of the bolts is too short and i cant get the washer and nut to catch on it. Thatvone bolt does seem to be sticking out higher in the tank though. Should i simply "press" this down further? I tried and it seems stuck. I cannot access the top of the bolt to "screw" it down as it is covered in that rubber. I hesitate to simply use more force on porcelain too! Im sure im missing something but if you have any feedback id appreciate it!
