Easy to install, kzitem.infoUgkxjA-hDN2m8_mi0Dg0JD8U6QiArozIAc4I and comfortable. No idea what other people were talking about when they said it was difficult to install or uncomfortable.

I commend you for using a level... you are the only video I saw that mentioned leveling. Most of these yahoos just strap it to the floor and say done. I would hire you over the other guys! BTW - I tried the Sani Seal rather than a wax ring... hoping it lasts as well.

I wish you'd shown popping off the excess shim with a chisel. I bet it didn't go the way you had hoped.

show us how you popped off the shims with the chisel. This would complete your video demo on the shims. Very important.

Great video on use of toilet shims. So I take it that since you were so meticulous with glueing down your shims that you don't caulk the base of the toilet after. Also could I just use regular composite shims for this instead of specialty toilet shims...they cost less and you get more....down side is they are black instead of clear

I'm sure the composite shims would work fine, but as you point out, the contrast in color might be noticeable. I've seen people caulk the base of the toilet to the floor, but I don't do this. As a service item, the toilet bowl should be removable. Plus if there is a leak, a sealed base might disguise the leak for some time letting it get worse.

Right, not ideal to caulk base of toilet. It does help level the toilet and keep it in place but like he said, if the base leaks, the caulk can be infested with mildew and mold.

The shims are soft enough plastic that you really can pop them off without gouging the floor as long as you are careful.

Why are the shims adhered to the floor rather than the toilet? thanks.

You can glue whichever side of the shims you want, but I find there is less mess with a dab of silicon or other cement on the floor side.

The rest of the toilets in this house are with this style of supply tube. I wanted to be consistent. Plus in theory the semi rigid pipe will not be susceptible to bursting. You can use the flexible if you prefer.

DIYer's: Do not buy a Kohler Cimarron or you will be watching every video available to figure out how to stop a leaking tank gasket. Toto one piece installs in 15 minutes - no adjustments, leveling, shims, or magical tightening required!

Toto toilets are expensive and too modern for my taste.
