Isn’t paper side down more likely to have inadequate drying afterward? I read that paper up allows the water to escape more easily- why is it recommended paper down?

Yeah in my office it has always been paper up and the plastic side down so the pouches are facing down when we autoclave them 🤷🏻♀️

@@ryanrydell8243sterilize with paper down, then during drying phase, flip them to dry. Sounds like extra work, but that's probably the best way

It's the exact opposite. Water is heavy and wants to drain with gravity. When plastic side down, all the water pools and then can't evaporate. When it's paper side down, water can drain through the paper and evaporate due to the pores in the paper fibers.

Always a discussion no one believes me when I say paper down plastic up but does anyone know how to get the paper to stop sticking to the tray because I have tried just about everything

After the autoclave reaches the correct temperature and pressure for the appropriate amount of the time the chamber is depressurized and goes through a dry heat cycle of about 30 minutes. This is when the packs dry completely.
