If you don't have the clips,you can use a piece of plastic tubing of the right inside diameter,and cut it to the required length,and cut a slot in it lengthwise.Does the same job.

I locked mine in low gear with an 80 turn motor it is fast enough! I didn't use the clips. I pulled the front e clip off slid the barrel for the ball joint back to act as a spacer and put the clip back on. Didn't know about the spacers! Thanks

Well here is a video that helps me a lot, I was looking for a trick to block my truck in second gear, for me third gear is useless on these trucks. Thank you for these tips 👌

When running the standard setups with stock motor they are way too fast, locking the third is ideal 👌

Would have been nice to have the 3-speed gearbox but with some usable gearratio.

Completely agree that people shouldn't speed round meets 👍 mines locked in 3rd so I can use full speed when I go out locally as it's the perfect speed to follow in my wheelchair. Then for at meets I have a button on my phone menu that when I press it it changes the throttle curve to restrict the throttle to 30% which gives perfect scale speeds

Definitely, especially when running a standard setup, they just put other people's work at risk.. I also turn the percentage down on my radio so it creeps when at meets and when I'm just out playing I put it back to 100% which is like walking pace, the Carson poison motors reduce the power output dramatically and its also less stress on the gearbox if your shifting 👍

Scott is there any type of personal hobby insurance you can get for the trucks. yes think 3rd is way too fast when at a meeting, maybe an error when nowhere near other vehicles for a beginner. but when around other trucks then you got to be aware that these things do cost thousands. I was quite surprised how much upgrade parts cost years ago, and all mounts up in next to no time whatso ever. like trying to upgrade the first kit truck, then the spares was going to be for the 2nd truck, but now finding that I am buying for both trucks, and the price for parts is sky rocketing every month.

I honestly have no clue in regards to hobby insurance, although I have heard of people insuring their trucks etc and I agree upgrades are going through the roof along with everything else. The hobby is getting ridiculously expensive, especially for the good stuff these days which is unfair on many people who wish to get into the hobby.

I've always known about that, but never tried it before. Another annoyance from a Company that COULD have sorted this, YEARS ago!! 🤬🤬🤬🤬 SAME Gearbox since 1993.... they should have designed another Gearset, where 1st is an absolute Granny Gear, 0.5mph, all out, even WITH the 27t Motor! 3rd never needed to be that high... in ANYTHING. But, the 3-speed, with a GRU, is perfect!
@scotty555babe

Definitely, after all these years and surely Tamiya are aware of what kind of costs people are putting into their builds, it really wouldn't be difficult for them to adjust the gears, like you say to Granny mode, the crawler market is progressing when it comes to gearboxes these days.. I'm going to have to get a GRU fitted to a stock gearbox as I've personally never used them but I'm liking the idea of reducing the stock box to possibly actually enjoy playing with the gears 😂 It's surprising how often I get asked about how I lock the gearbox so I thought I'd do the video to show folk who haven't realised they already have the parts 👍

@@scotty555babe That's exactly my idea.... I like the gear changes, and the option to go a LITTLE faster if I want. I'll tell you from experience, do NOT get the separate GRU, that fits midway and requires 2 small Driveshafts. The extra Driveshaft isn't the issue..... It's NOISY!!! 😡 The one that screws right to the back of the Gearbox, although more money, is much better. But yeah.... Tamiya could pretty easily, make different Gears for the existing Gearbox. A little lower 2nd and 3rd... (actually make 2nd, what 1st is now) but make 1st about 30-1 !!
