Great tutorial. I made 4 sets of 3D Pokémon cards. He exacto knife was a nightmare for me. After trying 3 knives, I ended up using Cutter Bee precision scissors. They turned out nice but not nearly as nice as yours. Also, I used foam tape. The edges did look janky so, I used quilling paper to line the edges. It gave them a nice clean look. Next sets made, I’m going to try your techniques. Your cards turned out beautiful! Thank you for sharing. ❤

@@Stellas.Collection Thank you. I made a different kind of Pokémon card today. Taking card images from the internet since my grandchildren haven’t brought any duplicates over. They’re 5.5 inches by 4”. I put them images on my cutting machine, and created cutting paths for each shape. Next, I compiled them together using about 12 stacks of the card stock prints to make them nice and thick. After it was pieced together, I used glossy Liquitex varnish to give it that card shine. It turned out so cool and was a lot easier than using my horrible exacto knife. Of course, when the kids give me more duplicates, it’s back to trying the exacto knife but, I’m going to buy a different kind for the next try.

Ive been watching alot of these and i think if you are crafty you could make a 3d card from just one card. you could get black card paper and just use that behind the various cuts. this would give it shadow and also allow you to make 3d cards from just one card. This would be good for super rares that are expensive.

Do you have an idea how to improve on the edges of the final card? I am planning to make a 3D card as a birthday present like you did with Ralts. I guess I will glue some Cardboard on the sides and paint it yellow so it fits the frame of the card. Nice work btw!

Shadow boxes!! They're very fun ^_^ I made myself a wimpod shadowbox with some proxies a few months ago, and I carry her around on my wallet everywhere with me!! I loved your takes on it, they're adorable! Definitely ralts is my fave of the bunch. Poor yanmas though, kicked from their own cards :(( xD

You didn’t even mention what you used to adhere them together or what you put in between the layers to make them 3D.

Interesting video and technique but you only really need 1 card and lots of foamboard, thick paper, and some water color and get a much better effect. That way you can buy a decently expensive card to destroy and remake without needing multiples.
@MikeHunt-lz2hq

I don't agree . You'll need 4 to 10 copies but can be done with less . You'll need double sided foam tape exacto knife and more if you want it to turn out good . Then layer the background fore ground and the Pokemon . With something like haunter you'll want his body arms and tongue to all be in different layers and maybe his eyes as well for good effect . Now if you just want to paint one then sure one card will do but you'll need at least 4 copies for the 3d effect unless you use cardstock and can paint with ultra precision. And color match with the same amount of precision

Not exactly, you need multiple for the stacking effect or it won't get the depth - foamboard doesn't work like that.
@artrobot9000

@netstormuk it doesn't stack but stacking doesn't do things foamboard does. My method actually increases time spent as it's like making your own puzzle you have to refill gaps but it does allow a Pikachu with one foot in the back plane stand on solid ground while his front is standing on ground. He isn't floating nor does he have a blacked out background behind him when there is a clear sky. It's hard to explain but I use alot of triangles for this effect. Also if I want to rip up a 10 dollar charizard it won't cost me a hundred to make it 3d. Just time.
