coconuts leaves are very useful to us islanders. frm cookin, washing,body lotion, making fire, making houses, shades for our fale or houses.mats instead of tiles or carperts hats to cover our heads frm the sun,roof our houses instead of tins u name it.awesome tree an i can say its a tree of life

I bought one of these in Hawaii in 1952 and I still have it. its very dry but still in great shape. it still can be worn, but I have it hung on the wall. I think it will outlast me!!

LOL me, too. My first experience with a palm hat was back in 1957 - in Florida. I kept that hat until 1987 - and loved it. Now I find how to make one -- and don't trust myself with such a large knife. But ironic that now I live where there are palm trees - and no one here makes hats. Drats!
