There's so many "bar chord tips" videos, but yours is the only one that focuses on fixing the problem: index finger buzzing. Finally! Thanks for the detailed instructions on "2nd joint" straightening & not needing to press too hard.

Hello Yasmine, think of it as a two stage-process. First, place only your first finger all the way across the guitar neck to get a clean sound without any buzz or muting. It won't be a chord but try to get the first finger correct before adding your other fingers. Maybe your guitar is hard to play. Go to a local music store. Tell the person that you want to try a guitar on which it's easy to make barre chords. They should be happy to help. I hope this is useful! Best, BH

If you've found a way to make it work, then you've solved your problem. I wouldn't tend to think that it's a matter of you're finger not being strong enough, I would lean more towards saying that you're guitar is hard to play. I hope this helps.

I plan an upcoming video lesson on how and why to use barre chords less and less ... less is more. In my experience, everyone should learn how to make barre chords but they should learn how to use them as little as possible. Merle Travis was one of the great players of the previous generation who didn't use barre chords at all. I would suggest that you go down to the local music store and tell the sales person that you would like to try out several guitars to see if there is a difference between them as far as your ability to make barre chords in the positions with which you are having difficulty. Another trick is to tune your guitar down 1 whole step, in other words, make the tuning DGCFAD to see if too much string tension is the problem which indicates that your guitar action is too high. This will require that a capo be used at the 2nd fret to play the guitar in standard tuning. I hope these things help and thanks for continuing to watch my videos. More are coming soon. The best way to contact me is at bobby@bobbyhowe.com. Thanks.

@Thanks. Glad you like the barre chord tips. I have other tips about weight loss but I don't know if you will like them. Most people can't get their head around them. The idea is LCHF, if you're still interested, check out Dr. Jason Fung on KZitem. I recommend watching at least 2 or 3 of his videos. By the way, he is not selling anything. If you like what he has to say, you'll be on your way to losing. I did. Basically LCHF combined with intermittent fasting. I feel better than I have in 30 years. There is other great information by other presenters but he captures it about as well as anyone. 70 lbs. so far, I want to lose another 80 and I feel confident I can. Nothing else has worked until I finally found LCHF and intermittent fasting. All the best and I hope you can make it work for you too. I'll be interested to know. BH

@@BobbyHoweGuitar Thanks for the Dr. Fung tip. For medical reasons I can't eat dairy, poultry, or fish. However I can drop the high sugar fruits.I have already dropped processed foods. I am also going to try the fasting. My goal is to lose 35 pounds that just won't go away. I will let you know how it goes. I am sure you will make your goal. Glad to hear you have found a way of eating you can live with.

But there is one thing I still face problem with ...................it is playing the barre chord in the shape of open A major in standard tuning in lower frets say 10th fret .........................I mean I do it by slightly curling the index for barring but then when I try to put my middle, third, and little finger.............in the 12th fret respectively on D, G, and B string there is just no enough place to put all the three fingers.............my little finger touches the 13th fret's metal or middle one touches the fret of 11th fret and then the damn dodging sound...................can you please suggest a possible solution....................thanks again sir for your so amazing and helpful result................I'm eagerly waiting for your reply sir.

Wow! Good questions! I can see now that probably another video is in order to further explain the questions you are asking. The short answer: Playing a barre chord with the intent of making a shape that would be A in an open position chord is best done by "folding over" the ring finger to cover the 4, 3, and 2 strings. The 1st string is not really of interest with this type of chord. For this chord, most players are only interested in the 5, 4, 3 and 2 strings. So, the 1st finger covers the 5th string, the 3rd or ring finger lays flat covering the 4, 3 and 2 strings. Further questions? Reply back, I will try to help.
