This video shows how I made my first ever batch of lampblack tattoo ink, using fatwood. And let me tell you, this stuff truly turns out black under the skin and has remained that way so far. A big thank you to @Nighthawkinlight for having shared the process of efficiently harvesting the lampblack on his channel. That video is linked here, and I highly recommend watching it! • How To Make Lampblack ...
You'll see the comparison, in my video, of charcoal ink to lampblack made with fatwood, and it is striking. Even more so in person. The various Tulip Poplar, Apple, and Hickory charcoals I have used are all distinctly blue-grey in appearance and were that way from the beginning. I do suspect the lampblack will settle to a mid grey with time, so we will see how that works out. I do love love both this black as well as the color charcoal presents. But it's an interesting thing to observe, and I intend to work with more of this ink and as many other natural inks as possible in the future.
