Can i make a suggestion? Don't use a wooden spoon to mix the lye solution. The wood breaks down and you could end up with splinters in the soap. This happened to me when i was a Newbie 10 years ago. Now i only use plastic, silicone or a stainless steel spoon to mix lye solution.

I take my goats milk and pour it in to ice cube trays put them in the freezer. Each cube is 1 oz of liquid to replace the water. Now you can do the same with the filtered water to. This will help keep the temp down when you add the lye. Just remember to keep mixing. This will also help stop the milk from turning a brown or get dark.

In all the soapy videos I have watched I have never seen someone put something acidic in their soap and it become soap and not a gloopy mess, so kudos. I would personally add a disclaimer that if someone wanted to change an oil, or just use one oil that they should put it through a lye calculator to make sure their soap won't be lye heavy. I like soapcalc it's a good beginner's/ easy to understand calculator.

If you want to use fresh goats milk instead of dry freeze your milk in ice cube trays and add it while still frozen to the lye mixture. The heat from the lye will melt the frozen goats milk. If you use it without it being frozen, I have found it kind of burns it. I am not sure if anyone else does this, but it works for me. :)

Just a little advice...I would check the pH and also run it through a lye calculator like soapcalc just to make sure its not lye heavy. You want to make sure you have the right lye to water ratio to keep the soap safe, especially if you sell it. Water needs to be measured out in ounces and not in cups just like the lye and the oils do.

Norma here. Just wondering why you add lemon juice and steric acid? I’m also curious as to why you use powdered goat’s milk. You can put goat’s milk in ice cube trays and freeze it. It would help bring the temperature down. All in all, you seem to add more ingredients than I’ve seen others use while making goat’s milk soap. I understand the different oils and fragrances, but would love to know why you use the items I questioned above. I would also love to see the finished product.

always use lots of water, not Vinegar, vinegar because of the reaction between the acid and the base can actually cause a worse chemical burn. great video though.
@andrewr022488
5 жыл бұрын
Tazalyn Silvercat That isn’t true, the Sodium Hydroxide and Water solution is caustic and high in pH, Vinegar is acidic and low in pH which will help neutralize the high pH in the Sodium Hydroxide solution. Vinegar is the solution should you get a chemical burn from the Sodium Hydroxide solution.
@bogavai
4 жыл бұрын
I agree with the other reply,you must used vinegar to neutralize the lye,never water.
@twistedknotz5485
4 жыл бұрын
@@andrewr022488 it is true actually. The msds data sheet for lye states for skin contact to immediately flush with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes. The msds data sheets for chemicals are essentially the bible for how to safely and effectively deal with a chemical related accident. Vinegar does neutralize lye but it does so by creating an exothermic reaction that flashes off the remaining lye, meaning it heats it up even more, and therefore can make the burn worse, sometimes much worse.

So 1 oz of sweet almond and 3 ounces of what ever scent and 2 oz if vitamin e . Is plenty enough to affect all of that mixture? 36 bars as you said . I would imagine over that many bars 1-2 oz if anything would be very minimal. I’m not saying you’re wrong . I want to start doing this . Just in my head that much mixture with very little of some of the ingredients blows my mind

I ran your formula thru SoapCalc, and now I understand why you need the lemon juice for the ph...your formula has about 3 ounces too much lye. Still don't understand the vitamin E oil. I use at least .65 ounce of essential or fragrance oil pop (per pound oils), by this formula nearly 2ounces. And 1/3 cup powdered goats milk for 36 bars? Not much benefit there. Now doesn't surprise me the soap stays very light in color. BTW, most of the jars of LouAna coconut oil I bought did not have a full 32ounces in them.
