The non-native Common Ivy (Hedera helix) is going rampant and it's time to prevent it from spreading further. In a permaculture way, we turned simply removing a plant into actually harvesting it! 100% Eco-friendly and biodegradable!
In this video we share how you can make home-made soap from English/Common Ivy. We also share why we think it's necessary to remove it as well as our observations with drying the leaves first.
06:10 SIMPLE Recipe for home-made Ivy dish soap:
Get a bunch of ivy leaves, enough to fill a pan. If, unlike us, you don't want to remove the plant in the long run, you can sustainably harvest by only taking the leaves.
---Remember, the leaves can be fresh OR dried. Either way should work.
Add water to cover the leaves.
Bring to a boil.
Simmer for 20 minutes. Let it cool down in the pan.
Filter into a container. Add some lemon juice. You can even add essential oils or other fragrances to make it smell (even) nicer!
I've also read that you can use it to wash your clothes with. Anyone who has any experience with this?
