Brother. My mother has been a JW, since 1968. She was baptized in Yankee stadium. She dedicated more than 50 years preaching. I knew since I was a child I wasn't going to fall for the BS. Anyway, my mom is 95 years old, she has dementia. She stopped going to the kingdom hall 3 years ago. Not because she opted to stop. Her dementia didn't remind her of the meeting days. Anyway she has been admitted to a hospital for 3 weeks. I hit up the congregation for assistance. I'm a only child. I'm "worldly" . As I asked for assistance. I was told that because she stopped going to the meetings, they really had to consider it. My mother supported these assholes for 5 decades. They're deplorables.

I grew up as a JW but stopped going when I graduated highschool (never got baptized thankfully) but I have JW friends who live "double lives" (feel weird saying that because they're just normal people, forced into a cult by their family), but I'm super confused because I still hang out with them from time to time but we always just ignore the elephant in the room, that they're JWs and that they technically shouldn't be associating with me. I've thought about bringing it up in the past, but we have mutual "worldly" friends that we hang out with so I just thought it'd be awkward if I brought it up. They're both baptized too, so I think they're only still in it so they don't get banished from their family, it's honestly quite sad now that I think about it. I'm just glad my mom is the only one who joined the cult and no one else in my family followed along, even then, since I never got baptized, I was never disfellowshipped so I still have a great relationship with my mom regardless of me being atheist. The same could not be said for many ex-JWs.

It’s crazy to think of all the money we are sat on sometimes. This is great thinking outside the box. Great idea to go to Freecycle and get something you can then sell. Scour the charity shops too for a bargain and sell it. Use Vinted for clothing, tech and beauty products too as they don’t charge commission.

Withdrew my 8 yr membership from SDA several years ago. I never got flak from anyone surprisingly. Maybe I was too strong willed or there's a different culture around membership where I lived. I did find that they don't practice love very well. Considering scripture says 'Let love be your greatest aim...' it seemed that doctrine is far more important. Still, I keep an open mind about God, because in comparison to the pentecostal denomination that I grew up in, SDA teaching (similar to JW in terms of prophetic understanding) grounded me mentally through their understanding of scripture and health message, which caused me to experience freedom from depression. Still keep the Sabbath for good reason but not a committed member of the SDA organization. I have some stories to tell for sure lol.

Keep saving! A lot of apartments require a deposit of that size, the first month's rent, and your costs to move in. I'd save a minimum of 1-2k just for the move depending on how far you are. I'm in Cali too, check Zillow to get an idea of costs in your area! More vids on this soon.

@@rocknrallsoul94rockero4 I agree with Kameron. I live in California too. Southern California. You're doing really good saving up your money. If your car, phone or anything else that you use and need when you eventually leave is in your parent's name, ( even if you pay them your portion of the bill) or anything that they may be paying for that os in your name. Before you make the big move, you'll want to have these things put in your own name. Otherwise they will be legally entitled to take them away from you if not make you feel guilty for keeping them. You'll want to have a copy ( if not the original ) of your birth certificate and Social Security card as well.

Americans have a culture of buying- people with walk in closet full of clothing and shoes. Then we rent storage buildings to hold excess stuff. We are a culture of having a oppose to being (Fromm). Of course, when we buy or have a service someone at the other end is making a living. The thing about being a JW, we have a certain line scripts in your head. Trusting, relying, throwing our burden on Jehovah. If we leave or think different, we are leaving or proving to be disloyalty to the ultimate and all knowing source who understands us. We have a dependency need.

When you refer to your viewers as " brothers and sisters", the brainwashing is evident. I. Am. Not. Your. Sister. I had three ACTUAL brothers, you are not one of them. Stop calling strangers "brother and sister" , it highlights the crazy.
