Made my stencil from Vinyl . Tried printing on my acrylic painting . Epic fail . Ink initially dints go through - barely then bled and . Number 230 mesh . I had to have it flat when applying ink because it had to be on an angle and directly on top of my bigger painting .

It’s really important to have the screen even on the surface that you are printing on- if there is a gap or an uneven space that can definitely cause the ink to bleed. Also, if you are having a hard time getting enough ink through the screen, you may want to try a smaller count mesh. I use 110 mesh for most of my projects and like the results that I get.

Do you always place the vinyl (mirrored) on the bottom of the screen? When is it appropriate to place vinyl inside the screen?

I prefer to have the vinyl on the bottom of the screen so that I have a nice smooth surface to pull my squeegee over. If you have an intricate design, the squeegee can sometimes pull up or shift the pieces

I know this is old but can you clean the I’ll from the screen and use it later or with a different color. Thanks and great video

If you have a design that you want to use over again, I’d recommend making a permanent screen. Check out this video where I go over that: kzitem.info/news/bejne/2JV3l4prgod-aI4

If this happens, grab a few sheets of scrap paper and clear the screen of all the ink (try to wipe off the squeegee between strokes). Replace the paper after each swipe until it is clear- clearing the screen can help to press the vinyl back down into place. Once it looks ok, try starting again. If it continues, you may want to look at the tension of your screen. If it is too loose, this can cause too much ink to pass through and affect the vinyl.

Hi, I just had a question. After the screen is cleaned, is the vinyl no longer usable and you have to cut a new design?

I use this technique when I have a design that I’m only going to print in one session (I take the vinyl off when I’m done and wash the screen). Check out this video to see how I make a permanent screen when I have a design that I know I’m going to use over and over again: kzitem.info/news/bejne/2JV3l4prgod-aI4
