it just feels good, like my neighbor was about to toss his old PC, he asked for an option on a PC I asked what he does on his PC and all he does is surf the web so instead of tossing his single core Sempron PC I tossed Ubuntu on it and set it all up for him and added an extra 512mb of ram to it and it loads everything he needs within his expectations.

I just wanted to take the time to thank you for your videos, modstek. I have an old HP dc5800 that I got for $10 at a yard sale a few years ago that I was using as a media PC, but it was a little laggy. After watching your videos, I was inspired to upgrade it with a Q9400 processor, a gt1030 graphics card, a 120 GB SSD boot drive, 1 TB secondary HDD for Steam games, and maxed out (8 GB) of RAM. It's running like a brand new machine. Thank you!

ThatsNiceGuy - Technology and More Drop in a 2GB AMD R7, or R9 GPU, Install Xubuntu 18.04, make sure it has at least 8GB of DDR3 RAM, update to the latest Linux kernels via Ukuu app, reboot, then install STEAM and STEAM Play, and you can run tons of games no problem. AMD hardware is very well supported in the latest open source drivers with support from AMD themselves. I have an AMD AM2+ Athlon II X4 system with 8GB of DDR3 800mhz ram, and AMD XFX AMD R7 240 GB GPU that can still game fine on a lot of games in 720p - 1080p, giving me better frame rates then Windows 7,8.1, and 10 thanks to Vulkan translation with STEAM Play/Wine on non native Linux games. Mind you it's not 100% perfect, and I've ran into glitches, crashes here, and there, but about 90% of the games I've tested have ran just fine, and it's only getting better with the community, AMD, and Valve throwing their support behind it.

I don't know how old anything is in this build except that the gt 1030 is modern. But the thing is even if I had this set up before I built a gaming pc instead of keeping that macbook I'd been happy playing on this set up. Just put it this way I couldn't even play COD 4 on my 2009 Macbook properly it'd get under 60 under 30 fps at times at max settings making me have to play the game at 800x600 resolution.
