In jazz, players are attempting to "negotiate" the chord changes and play improvised melodic solo lines that fully outlines the harmony (the chord progression).
"Play the changes!"
Ever heard that one before?
This is quite a change of paradigm for the newcomers, especially if you're used to guitar solos in a rock, blues or country context.
In this rather long vlog, I describe (in details!) the framework I'm using with my jazz guitar students.
It's called THE THREE PILLARS of JAZZ IMPROVISATION and it can transform your playing for the better. In brief, it's a method that tells you what you need to work on.
Blog Post Summary:

First (Pillar #1), ensure you're actually playing "the right notes" on the chord changes.
Then (Pillar #2), connect the chords with your lines (in other words, outlining chords while they move but within a single-note line)
Lastly (Pillar #3), control the flow of your ideas in time. Phrasing, articulation, etc.
