Thanks for the recipe! I finally got it right. Gosh, the first couple of times were awful, haha. It melted like cheese when I tried boiling them. The problem was that I tried to microwave the flour and hot water like many recipes say you should do. The consistency was awful every time, like mochi, only worse. But with your recipe it finally worked! The trick is to just use enough water for a dough to form. If it's too much, you need to work more flour into your dough, till its not sticky and barely wet. When you get the hang of it, it's really easy. Never gonna buy store bought again. They cost like 8 euros for 600gr.
@minty8065

If you already made them fresh then cook the rice cakes in the broth so it'll get thick and saucy. Unless you like your tteokbokki soupy like this one. Using a little less water and steaming the dough in the microwave also works well!

It's so interesting that there are similar elements in different cultures all around the world. The method of preparing tteok is extremely similar, exact even to how we prepare dumbu (a tribal cuisine from Chotanagpur,India),the only difference being the shape .

Can also make tteokbokki with just rice! Just have to cook it in a rice cooker or in a pot(get a rice cooker, trust) and then once it’s cooked put it in a stand mixer with a little butter and mix for about 40 min till it becomes dough like and isn’t sticky and then wet your hands and cut it up and roll them into rice cakes!
