Dude your tutorials are incredible. This one is awesome. I took ten years or so away from production and composition and it's been a joy to get back into making music

Great stuff Reid (as always)! You mentioned being surprised at the 808 name for the distortion effect and thought it might be a coincidence. As it turns out, the term "808" is a big deal in the guitar world for a totally different reason. The "808 circuit" refers to the architecture of the original green Ibanez TS808 overdrive pedal. It's also commonly known as the "Tube Screamer." It's probably the most popular (and emulated) guitar pedal ever made. It's almost always included as an effect for any guitar amp modeling software. Guitar nerds (myself included) will sometimes refer to that particular overdrive as an 808.

That’s awesome! I own the 1981 Classic Ibanez TS-808 (with the original malaysia chip before they shortened the name to TS808 without the dash - ) it sounds great and is in mint condition still!! 👍🏻

It's called the 'tube screamer 808' because one of the models of Ibanez guitar pedal 'tube screamer' is called the TS808 (the other type his the TS9) completely unrelated to the 808 Roland drum kit bass drum sound but a bit of a coincedence none the less.

When mixing songs with both 808s and kicks- I’ve often noticed that certain notes of the 808 pattern are out of phase with the kick, but only certain notes. So, I end up having to split the 808 melody into 2 separate tracks, one track with the polarity flipped, the other not. And this is both before and after processing… Why is this?

Why are your studio monitors so close to the wall? Where is your acoustic treatment? You're one of my most trusted puppets for music production and I just got through deep diving into setting up my new studio monitors, took everything out of my office room to totally rearrange so my desk is in the center of the room and I've got a $200+ lowest budget minimal set of a well regarded acoustic panel kit in my Amazon cart (can't recall company name), hemming and hawing over whether to buy it or shell out more for the more expensive mid tier set, and I don't see you doing.. like.. *anything* these studio monitor setup guides said! The tweeters for the top speaker isn't even aimed at your puppet ear level let alone 60° angles to your puppet head. I just don't know what to think. Does any of that stuff make such a difference if the most trusted puppet in the business isn't bothering with it?

Hmm ... didnt understand anything. Thought to learn something about 808 and what that is. You dont even explain waht 808 is at first and than you jump into it, in a complex environment and talk about respect? I think, this has nothing to to with respect, its creativity. Advice from me ... keep it simple. The ability to keep it simple is intelligence.
