Adding vocal reverb is a great way to add space and depth to your vocal track. I remember when I 1st started using reverb I would go a little overboard, or I couldn't quite get that ambient sound I wanted without washing out the vocals.
In this track I show you how I use reverb subtly, but also a control called pre-delay that will allow you to add a lot of reverb, but not have it wash the vocal out.
The pre-delay is kind of like a delay built into the reverb. What this does is allow the main dry vocal to be heard 1st before you hear the reverb effect. It's a super short delay so it still sounds ambient, but you don't lose the focus of your lead vocal.
That's important.
You can go as conservative or crazy as you'd like depending on the vocal reverb sound you are after.
